Winger Robert Snodgrass is banking on Norwich City’s set-piece routines delivering more goals – to reward hours of practice spent on the training ground.

Dead-ball kicks have been profitable for the Canaries in their last three games, with the Scotland international involved in the goals that earned a Premier League point at Aston Villa, a late Capital One Cup victory over Tottenham and another Carrow Road winner against Stoke City.

Snodgrass had a hand in the short corner and two free-kicks that benefited scorers Michael Turner, Simeon Jackson and Bradley Johnson, respectively, and is promising more assists to come.

He said: “It’s something the gaffer has been working on, deliveries into the box and can we get on the end of them? You can only put them into the area and it’s up to the lads to get on the end of them.

“It was a terrific finish against Stoke from Bradley Johnson, he’s capable of doing that. Get them in the box and there will be goals.”

It was by no means the first time the Snodgrass-Johnson combination had come up trumps. Fans with good memories may remember Johnson heading in a Snodgrass corner in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Norwich in League One three years ago.

“At Leeds, I drove myself on to try to get as many assists as possible and try to work on my delivery and put balls into the box,” said Snodgrass.

“Some might not be of the quality I believe is good enough, but you’ve just got to put it into an area and let them go and attack it. That’s what Bradley did. It was a great header and we did the same against Spurs on the Wednesday. We attacked set pieces and I hope we can keep doing that if it is going to pick up results.”

Before Chris Hughton’s Canaries face third-from-bottom Reading at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow (3pm), there will be another opportunity to brush up on their dead-ball routines at Colney.

“You do a little bit after training and work on it. The manager works on set pieces on a Friday. It’s a good part of our game,” said Snodgrass.

“We’ve got finishers in Grant Holt, Steve Morison and Simeon Jackson, if we get the balls in the box, and we’ve got some big defenders who we hope can get their head on it, like Michael Turner did against Aston Villa.”

  • A first away win would be good but the way Reading have been playing the lads will need to come out the blocks firing on all cylinders as they did against Arsenal. I would accept another one nil to the Norwich OTBC

  • Yes MBA very much so....I fly into Norwich "International Airport" on Sat 17 Nov morning, and I still haven't managed to secure a ticket yet. I asked the lads at Archant to sneak me into the press box and even offered to type furiously for them for the Pink Un Live Match commentary, but no luck so far.....

  • I'm looking forward to seeing some more goals for Norwich at Reading, whether from set pieces or otherwise. Should be a great atmosphere in a pretty good stadium. OTBC.

  • We are on a good run at the moment, three wins and a draw from the last four games. Now it is time to add three more points with an away win and that will set us up nicely for the Man Utd game on 17 November. Keep the run of good results going lads.... OTBC
