Nathan Redmond can play a massive part in England’s future, insists another of the Three Lions’ bright young starlets Tom Ince.

Roy Hodgson’s seniors may have flattered to deceive in Brazil with World Cup defeats to Italy and Uruguay, but the likes of Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling have both produced eye-catching cameos.

Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also part of Hodgson’s set-up and Ince predicts good times ahead with a new wave below them ready to emerge.

Norwich City wide player Redmond has played a key role in the under-21s’ surge to reach next summer’s European Championship finals, including a recent hat-trick to sink their Welsh counterparts, and Ince is convinced the 20-year-old is part of an exciting generation.

“Nathan was the star of the show with a hat-trick in that game,” he said. “The talk of people saying there is no English talent is hard to believe.

“With the under-21s we have seen the pathway it has given to Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and John Stones and they have the chance to go and play with the seniors. It shows the new ideas are working and there is some fantastic talent in the younger age groups.”

Both Redmond and Ince were part of another failed England campaign in Israel 12 months ago.

“You cannot go on the past and today is today,” he said. “The new squad we have is very young but has fantastic talent as well.”

  • This should be the week we know who is staying, who is going and a few of the new faces coming in. If not, then I fear we will be already behind schedule, as we need to get the squad fit and getting familiar with the patterns of play Adams will be adopting. This would normally be a process taking time but added to this we will probably have a squad with numerous new faces who will need to get to know each other's strengths, weaknesses etc. It is not as though we will be starting from very much a status quo position.
