Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy has denied national newspaper reports claiming he is a potential target for former boss Paul Lambert at Aston Villa.
The Daily Mirror claims Ruddy could replace Shay Given as Villa’s No 1. Given endured a difficult time with the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2012, where they conceded nine goals in their three defeats.
Ruddy has rubbished the speculation, posting on Twitter: “With regards to these rumours that everyone is tweeting me about I don’t know where they have come from, I have no desire to leave NCFC.”
The player who replaced the injured Ruddy in England’s Euro 2012 squad, 19-year-old Birmingham ’keeper Jack Butland, is being tipped as a potential big-money capture for his former manager, Chris Hughton, at Carrow Road.
According to the same story Hughton “has gone back to his previous club Birmingham and made a firm inquiry for Butland” suggesting the Canaries’ new boss is prepared to pay £4m for his services.
Hughton worked with England Under-21 international Butland at St Andrew’s during his year in charge. The young ’keeper has never played a first team game for the Blues but made 24 appearances on loan to League Two club Cheltenham last season.
Butland was brought into the England squad after Ruddy broke a finger on his first day of training with the national team.
Southampton are also reported to be chasing Butland’s signature but have not met Birmingham’s valuation.
