Chris Hughton has been linked with a raid on Liverpool for the Reds’ back-up keeper Brad Jones.
Various red tops yesterday put Norwich City in the frame as a potential destination for the 30-year-old, who still has two years left on his Anfield contract. Jones has had a bit part role for the Scousers behind Spanish international Pepe Reina since his £2.3m move from Middlesbrough, but Hughton reportedly sees the Australian as experienced competition to John Ruddy. Jones has made just one Premier League appearance for Liverpool – an emotional substitute outing in a 3-2 win at Blackburn towards the end of last season that he dedicated to the memory of his late son who died of leukaemia.
Meanwhile, James Vaughan’s pre-season goalscoring form has reportedly alerted Scottish champions Celtic to consider a season-long loan move. The Daily Record claimed yesterday Bhoys’ boss Neil Lennon was interested after previously attempting to lure Vaughan north when he was at Everton. The 24-year-old has also been touted for a close season switch to Championship clubs Birmingham and Huddersfield.
Norwich City have confirmed their first fixture in a three-game USA summer tour will be against Mexican side Club Dorados de Sinaloa in Sacramento on July 18.

It all makes no sense to me. In addition to Big John, we have got two potentially first class keepers bursting for some top line experience and the National GK coach. Surely it would be more cost effective to take the development route here? As for James Vaughan, it does not make much sense to rent him out when he finally seems to be getting over his terrible injury history. Let's look after him at home and take advantage of his good form. Just because the red-tops say it is so, it does not mean it is.

Wikipedia does say he signed a 3 year contract for a million a season. Perhaps they meant a million over three seasons? Would that add up, canarydownunder? Even that means he`d be getting about an eighth of the total wages budget. Unlikely? Perhaps Holly Valance is out of his range after all!

I may live down under but I like to see the Aussies fail as much as the next POM! The salary cap for the whole Brisbane team is A$2.48m in 201213, so no way is Theokiltos on $1m.OTBC!

Would Vaughan really want a move to the Scottish league or to chance his skill against Premiership opposition? As to Norwich needing more keepers- I don't think so.

Well Yorkshire does seem to be providing us with all our recent players but if Jordan Rhodes comes to Norwich I'll eat my 1960's Green and Yellow bobble hat. Not a chance!!

Agree with most of that, goldie. I suppose, in fairness to Becclesboy, he had a fair season in L1, twenty-odd goals in all comps. though that did include 4 versus the mighty Paulton! Both these bits of speculation make little sense (I hope!) as Lobbo said. Huddersfield, Hmmmmm.....

Do we need a keeper who has hardly played, how has he shown his prowess when not even being used? How would we send Vaughan to Celtic when we have not used the player ourselves especially as he now is fit for the first time and scoring GOALS. Be happy to see C Martin go to Celtic as no one else except Championship teams are interested in him and he has never done much for City even in lower leagues.

It just looks like the silly season has started with plenty more speculation on NCFC players to come, I feel. I agree with the general consensus - an extra goalkeeper is hardly a priority and we need to let Vaughan have a run in the team, to really see what he is about. However, money talks loudly so stranger things to follow .....

Funny thing is, Doc, Theo seems to do OK in Oz; wins the "Golden Gloves" Award etc. That shambles versus Colchester wasn`t all his fault. The whole team looked unfit, untrained, disorganised and generally shambolic. Players like Wiggins & Whaley disappeared without trace. Theo failed to turn up on time for the team coach and that was enough for the notoriously impatient manager. He quickly got riled & got rid. A million Oz dollars isn`t a bad little living! He could afford to take out Holly Valance!

MB, was it on Wikipedia that I saw that Theoklitos is getting a million a year? Even in Australian dollars that seems a lot of money.

Seems odd going for another goalie when we have Declan Rudd and Jed Steer unless they have had on offer they can't refuse for John Ruddy. Seems a bit premature to let JV go.

Nice and unsettling article for our players - just what is needed for the team spirit - speculation is so unhelpful. Just hold off reporting untill there is something definite. I expect Declan Rudd and Jed Steer will really value this article, not, and James Vaughan is currently sharpest of the bunch, so why on earth would we want to loan him out?

My only problem with Vaughan is his injury record where ever he has been but no doubtiny his ability when he is fit as for the keeper situation I think that Rudd is more than capable of stepping up to the mark

Yes I mentioned that on another board, Doc. Had to tread carefully so as to not offend canarydownunder! I so HATE offending people..... I dug up similar info to this article from Wikipedia and posted it yesterday. I think it avoided being rejected. This guy went to college with Holly Valance - that`s one up on Theoklitos for starters! ;-)

Maybe we dont know everyting that is going on behind the scenes? But to let JV go on loan whens he is starting to look like the real deal seems a bit strange. Let James go to Celtic and keep Morrison and Martin here, Hmmmmmm a space maybe being made for Jordan Rhodes or similar?

Vaughan impressed whenever I saw him last season, albeit in very short glimpses due to injury, but he seems to be fit and scoring for fun in pre-season, so hopefully we'll get to see the best of him this season - why give him away? MLS
