Norwich City have reportedly agreed a £4.7m deal with PSV Eindhoven to sign Sweden forward Nils Ola Toivonen.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Voetbal International reported on Tuesday that City were looking to sign PSV’s 26-year-old contract rebel, who has also been linked with Everton, Fulham or West Brom.

The decision is now believed to be with Toivonen, who is currently with Sweden for their World Cup qualifier with the Faroe Islands on Tuesday evening, over whether he wants to join the Canaries or hold out for another move.

PSV technical director Marcel Brands refused to confirm there is an agreement with Norwich City over Toivonen, instead saying: “There is real interest, from many clubs.”

Toivonen has had something of a major fall-out with his current club as he approaches the final year of his contract with the Dutch side, and has been threatened with playing for their reserves next season if he does not sign the new deal Eindhoven have put in front of him.

The rangy forward has scored 59 goals in 125 appearances since moving to the Eredivisie in 2009, while also pocketing six goals in 33 caps for Sweden.

Asked about a move to the Premier League last week, Toivonen said: “It is always interesting. I don’t know, hard to say (what league would suit him). It depends on which team you come to.

“There are teams who like to play long balls and those who like to play by the ground. I prefer the latter.”

Toivonen added: “The policy of PSV has changed and that’s bad for me. I didn’t start all this.

“So I will start with the approaches on July 1. But the asking price is too high. I’ve said it before and I continue to say it.”

Meanwhile, Premier League new boys Hull City have reportedly opened negotiations with Birmingham City centre-back and long-time Canaries target Curtis Davies.

Birmingham were believed to have turned down swap deals and decent money from Stoke and Norwich in January for the 28-year-old.

Now the cash-strapped club really do want the cash – but only if they can get £4m, plus a player or two heading in the opposite direction; Hull defender Jack Hobbs being the Blues’ target.

Davies has been linked with a move to Carrow Road pretty much from the moment manager Chris Hughton made his own switch from St Andrews.

However, it remains to be seen whether defensive reinforcements are high on his summer recruitment list. Hull defender Jack Hobbs being the Blues’ target.

He was a target for Paul Lambert at the beginning of last season, so must have some pedigree. He looks very good in the air and certainly packs a shot. Has that ‘Grant Holt’ physical approach to his football, which is bound to keep the pundits happy. Should fit in a treat with the Wolf and co. Good one Norwich...if it's true.

I always went for Anni-Frid because of her darker hair etc. Probably because I had blond hair myself at the time ,(now going a little bit greyer) opposites attract and all that. Anni was born in Norway to a Norwegian mother and German father. He was part of the occupying forces and consequently Anni's mother had to leave Norway and move to Sweden. He was already married but being lonely struck up a relationship with an 18 year old local girl called Synni and Anni-Frid was conceived. I think he left Norway in late 1944 not knowing of the pregnancy. He was amazed years later when Anni-Frid tracked him down to find he was the natural father of an international superstar.
