Norwich City boss Neil Adams insisted Anthony Pilkington’s pending Carrow Road exit had been not hastened by his social media outburst after his Wolves’ snub.

Pilkington was at Cardiff’s training ground on Thursday to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after the Canaries’ had accepted a bid from their Championship rivals for the out-of-favour Republic of Ireland international.

Bluebirds’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed after his side’s midweek Capital One Cup win against Coventry he viewed the 26-year-old as a perfect replacement for injured wide man Craig Noone, with the proposed deal worth in the region of £2m for Norwich.

Pilkington had a bit-part role during City’s pre-season build-up, and used his personal twitter account at the weekend to state he was fit for duty after being left out of the matchday squad for the opening Championship defeat at Molineux.

Adams confirmed at Colney on Thursday he had spoken to the midfielder over what he labelled ‘a misunderstanding’ after Pilkington missed training on Friday, and the Norwich chief stressed that had no bearing on the club’s decision to sanction a potential departure.

“There is interest in him. A lot of interest,” said Adams. “The same with a number of our players but that is where we are at this moment in time. An offer has been made and if it is deemed acceptable to the club then we will deal with in the appropriate manner. Once it gets to a stage where we are happy then something might happen, but that is still on-going.

“I think that what happened around the Wolves game is two plus two made 17 for some people. Thankfully, we resolved that. What is happening now since the weekend with the player is nothing to do with that. It was a misunderstanding.

“I would never take an injured player to a game, that is why he travelled with us. He wasn’t on the bench but to reiterate the interest from other clubs right now is not a consequence of that episode.

“I’ve said it all along but there are players here and some of them are more at the forefront of my thinking than others. It is really as simple as that.”

  • When Neil Adams makes his statements to the press one wonders who he feels he is talking to? does he have in his mind that the target audience is a bunch of 6 year old school kids? An 80 year old grannie? He just does not seem to speak to me. "There are many Managers available and some of them are more at the forefront of my thinking than others. It's as simple as that Neil !"

  • Michigan, I would suggest that sometimes it is not in the best interests of the club to lay all the information bare for everyone to see, especially regarding who is ready to play and who is not. As much as fans want to know all the details it is not our divine right.

  • …..Well said, el dingo!...I feel great mixing with the Learned on these boards....I left school BEFORE certificates of any sort were commonplace, available or attempted ..Looking back (1948), I am aware that I was innocent, ignorant, un-educated and only really interested in a game of football, and a fag!...Much of that remains to this day ...although I gave up on the smoking many moons ago!.... What ever has been achieved in life from those days has taken a back seat now !.... I am happy to put a slant on life as I see it now, through old eyes (20-20 or near still)... with the aid of TV and the internet... in I hope a pleasant way!..... What on earth was that all about ???.....

  • I am getting the distinct impression that all the press releases out of Carrow Rd these days are "what they think the fans would like to hear" on any subject as opposed to straight answers and true infoirmation on items like transfers, players readiness, injuries, etc.

  • Didn`t Pilks Twitter that "I`ve been fit all pre-season" comment to his mate, the Arch-Insider, Divot? Do you have any idea why Sony Tulip left Palace, LincsCan? My guess would be transfer funds not forthcoming + he has a better job lined up somewhere. Punditry, perhaps. Replace that charming Rab C. Butler @ Partridge Radio? Liked that quote from Reggie Perrin, OTBox. ;-) Classic. Neil is certainly well versed in the Dark Arts of Platitude-Speak, presumably from his time at `Partridge`? I suppose Neil`s achieving two of the Board`s objectives; get the wage bill down and cash in on "fringe" players, aka those with a decent transfer value. Who`s next? Fer. Tettey. Olsson. Redmond... Lafferty?

  • Neil is starting to talk like one of those bland NCFC statements: "That is where we are at this moment in time. An offer has been made and if it is deemed acceptable to the club then we will deal with in the appropriate manner. Once it gets to a stage where we are happy then something might happen, but that is still on-going." As CJ used to say to Reggie Perrin: "A cliche to me is like a red rag to a bull."

  • I would certainly take Pulis instead of NA but it won't happen. The structure at Carrow Rd is designed to deter anyone who wanted to bring in their own coaching team so we end up with a cheap option puppet manager who we are stuck with. As long as this little Norwich structure is in place we will never get anyone who can actually do the job properly.

  • This raises questions for me about not only whether (as has been mentioned elsewhere) Adams can attract quality players to the club, but also whether he can hold onto the quality we already have. Reading the 'misunderstanding' quote above just makes me wonder whether he's out of his depth. I hope I'm wrong on that one.I can't say I'm happy to lose Pilkington to a Championship rival, but £2m would otherwise be a good deal for a player who seems to struggle with fitness and stamina. It doesn't leave us with many goalscorers from midfield and he has probably been the best crosser of the ball we've recently had on the books.
