Former Norwich City boss Paul Lambert wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up facing his former club on the opening day of the season.
The Premier League fixtures are released today and the new Aston Villa manager joked at the unveiling of his new club’s kit for the 2012/13 season that a return to Carrow Road is high on his mind.
“It will probably be Norwich away,” quipped the 42-year-old, whose halo slipped among Norwich fans when he decided to take up the challenge of succeeding Alex McLeish at Villa Park. “Whoever we get on the first day of the season I think it will be great and I am pretty sure the fans will come in their thousands to watch us. But more importantly I think we have to start to win and if we do that we’ll be okay.”
Lambert has been warmly welcomed to Aston Villa by the majority of their fans and he hopes to repay their faith by getting off to a quick start next season.
“It’s a really, really big club and it’s up to me to try and make it a really good season,” he added. “Whoever we get (on the opening day of the season) will be a great occasion and I’m really looking forward to it.
“It doesn’t really give me a great concern who it is – any game we get will be tough whether it is home or away. I’m just looking forward to the season getting going.”
Norwich City officials confirmed on Monday night the release of ten players from the club – headlined by the departure of Canadian international Simeon Jackson.

Mad, you really are moronic at times aren't you? Why not try having intelligent debate with someone that has an opposing view to your own rather than just silly, juvenile name calling? Grow up man. Oh and please stop peppering this site with your constant "boo hoo, I've been ethered" waffle!

Can't wait for CH to start signing a few players so the EDP can stop running any waffle they can on PL to fill up the sports section. PL=HISTORY

Your barely intelligible, deranged gibberish, young man. It has to be a medication malfunction, surely?

I must admit I'm a little sick of hearing about Paul Lambert, what he does or say now doesn't help us so I just want to hear about CH and our team. I will forever be grateful to Lambert for what he has done for our club but lets get behind Hughton and move on.

Haha waffle! Just because I don't agree with your Jilted John point of view. Clearly pretending we no longer know him is very grown up and I'm sure if I were to trawl back through the site I would find u constantly criticising all his post match interviews after all our fine vicories over the last 3 seasons. Yes my page got through as opposed to ur few lines but then again u already had 5 previous comments accepted not to mention the others u said didn't make it. Maybe think before posting a well put together comment rather than just spouting off every 10 minutes!!haha!

Nicely succinct, Jonny Fowler. Our future is in the past. Our present lies ahead.

Oh dear. Some of the comments from our fans are so disappointing. I'm with you Rogers of Norwich, as much as we are all looking forward to August and kicking off with our new regime, there is no need to pretend that PL was nothing other than a miracle worker for our club. We all know what he has done and where he left us, let's be gracious and grateful. Thankfull that we were treated to over use of the words excellent and great (plus the odd "just fine" now and again). This comment was about us so why not report it? It's not as if there are lots of stories about right now. If you're not interested in it, then don't read it and don't comment on it. I'm just more than a little fed up and embarrassed about all these posters on here acting like jilted teenage lovers. Get over it, accept it and move on. I have no grudge and wish PL all the best, other than against us of course, as we owe him a massive debt of gratitude. As for judging CH - well I'm afraid that will ONLY be based on results and performances and anyone who disputes that I will enjoy debating the point.

I agree with all the comments. NCFC fans are not interested in Paul Lambert or villa. We've moved on. we have a new manager, Chris Hughton... How about something about our club and manager, and not lambert or villa? Talk about dragging a story out...

why is this paper still so obsessed with our old manager, mr Lambert? We should now be looking to the future of our fantastic football club under the guidance of Chris Hughton and not dwelling on the past! Yes, Lambo got us here, but he's gone and now i for one couldn't give two hoots about him or Aston Villa. OTBC

Chris Hughton is our manager now and we're all looking forward to moving onward and upward under his stewardship, nice one McNally, for sure, but I can't get on board with the Paul Who? malarky, I don't need to make a case for why, he remains one of the best bosses we ever had. Agree that he's old news in these parts though... the only concern we should have with Lambert and Villa, now, is how to take 6 points off them next season, like any other team, and hope that doesn't eat to much into our bets on Villa finishing in the CL places, underpriced as they'll undoubtably be - he is still underestimated as a manager, but we know what he's capable of.

I`m with you, dave106. Chris Hughton seems warm and approachable. Courteous in an almost old-fashioned way. Under the surface is a top ex-player, a fine coach and a football brain that rescued the car-crash called Newcastle United, and worked miracles with a Birmingham team at a club otherwise in turmoil. I honestly believe that, yellow & green specs removed, McNally has pulled a master-stroke here. Chris H is a slow-burn success story. What he has is a solid foundation of experience. A long distance runner rather than a sprinter. A balanced personality. I wish him all the good fortune there is available. I`m sure City fans will give him 100% backing. OTBC. IHWHH.

Lobbo..... he really would....... ;-) ads76 is right. Although on recent evidence, these boards have become the domain of Villa fans exempt from the normal Ar-chant standards of what is "offensive". Perhaps Ar-chant`s been poached by the Birmingham Mail?
