Daniel Ayala has joined Championship side Nottingham Forest in a season-long loan deal.
Ayala, who joined from Liverpool last summer in a reported £800,000 deal, endured an injury interruped campaign with the Canaries last season, making just 10 appearances.
City boss Chris Hughton admitted last week he was considering a loan offer from Forest, who recently appointed Sean O’Driscoll as their new manager.
After recently adding Michael Turner to his back line from Sunderland, Hughton could not guarantee Ayala regular first team football and feels the Spaniard’s development will be helped with a spell at Forest.
A magnificent solo goal by midfielder Jonny Howson clinched a notable victory for Norwich City as they wrapped up their season by beating Premier League runners-up Manchester City on their own ground.

I support it and completely agree Northcity. I guess some people like to grumble. I'm pretty optimistic for this season, especially if Hughton is as good as people say he is. If not we can give Gunn another shot. :)

Good wishes to Dani Ayala for an injury-free season.

Am I the only person to support this move? Dani (hopefully) gets game time and develops his talent, last season he was giving penalties away and too 'hands on' with attackers; a season in the championship will develop him as a players and calm him down. No idea what everyone has against Ward & Barnett. Yes they're not our best defenders, however they're more than capable when called upon.

canaryjon, do you think we had to pay that much compensation for "Cushie" Butterfield? I had thought about £500K, tops but there`s no fact-based logic behind that guess! We should have got a reasonable fee for Crofts (?) and there may be a couple more going if there are incomers to balance the books. Lapps? C. Martin? Barnett? Fox, even??

Agree with just about all of this, with the obvious exception of the Gyppeswick Goon. Naughton to be "let go" by Spurs according to yesterday`s Mail. Berra is being released, too, by Wolves. Hope there`s a recall clause for Dani. What`s happening with Pitbull Vaughan? Is there a Great Plan here or is this a concerted deconstruction exercise, Perestroika in Reverse? IH we must Trust. Hope there`s some balancing good news on its way! If Forest take Ward too, we want our Dani back!!

What on earth is Hughton doing?? we are struggling for quality at the back as it is and we get rid of one of our better defenders

If Ayala is being paid £800,000 p.a., our reported pay ceiling, then the new owners of Forest may be more willing to pay him that than we are?

Perhaps CH doesn't need DA & will play a W M formation so we only need 1 CB U C.

Does Whooton know anything about football??? Our defence was already weak and now he's weakening it even further. What a clueless buffoon. It now seems obvious that we are going to play one up front, pack the midfield with Championship journeymen and desperately try and hang on at the back. It wont work. I'm speaking with Whooton later in the week and trust me fans, I'm going to make my thoughts known. Hopefully he'll take some notice of me. He should! Leave it with me friends, I'll do my best. Let's get Ginger Pele back! I think despite some talent in the area, defensively we needed to be alot stronger last season, perhaps CH is just reworking and doing a bit of jiggery pokery. I'm guessing we'll get one or two defenders in soon. I like the look of Whittaker if he can stay fit. Whittaker and Martin would be a great attacking-defender combo. If Turner and Bennett can make a solid partnership as someone suggested this could be a very interesting season indeed. Goals all over the park. maybe even Ruddy will get a couple...

Agree with most of the other comments,Barnett should go if anybody followed by Ward,Whitbread and Ayala better than both of them.If Vaughan follows will not be impressed as he looks the most likely at the moment to do well. What has happened to our so called biggest ever transfer budget so far £3m on Snod,£1.5 on Turner and I guess the same on Butterfield total £6m,looks like we are not very ambitious unless there are some big money moves we dont know about.CH said he has 5 centre halves as if to say thats too many so I dont see anyone else coming in.

Unless another CB is on the way I also agree this is a crazy decision. Last season having 5 centre backs wasn't enough. Now we have Bennett, Turner then also rans, unless we count R Martin. Ward is definitely not good enough quality, and nice guy though he might be it is Barnett I would have expected to be leaving - unless he has suddenly become a great deal more agile at controlling the ball with his feet. So unless another CB is on his way, I do feel it is a very strange decision!

A surprise move, but he does need more games and when he did play for us he did tend to give away a few goals, I think he has the ability and I do hope there is a recall clause. For me, Whitbread was our best centre half last season, followed by Russell Martin, Bennett looks good too. I think we have to trust CH on this one, hopefully Turner and Bennett will form a solid partnership, I would still like us to sign a couple of pacey full backs

Hmmm, I said in earlier postings today we need more PL Quality defenders. OK Ayala is loaned out for the season and like Ryan Bennett he is definitely a good future prospect, but this season has to be a concern. I'd like to see us ship out 3-4 of the current squad and bring in 3 or 4 more experienced and quality defenders. This has to be a concern now, honestly, we need an injection of better quality players to boost the squad than what we current have. Lets see what surprises CH has in store for us !!

This is madness. Ayala was a good presence when he played and was very solid. Barnett should have gone he is prone to costly mistakes and Ward is too thugish for this level. Not impressed with the new regime so far

I totally agree with you guys. This only just about makes sense if CH is sure of landing Davies or another quality CB. I guess he's not had much info to go on, but from our point of view Ayala formed one of the best CB pairings we had last year. But we let Whitbread and now him go, and we're keeping Barnett and Ward, both of whom are older and more prone to make mistakes. And don't get me started on James Vaughan - he'd better not be going anywhere unless CH is landing Robin Van Persie!

I don't understand this. If we pay money for a player, we want him to be ready to perform in the Premiership - so we play him as part of a squad, to aid his development. He may play 46 games in the Championship this season, but we still won't know if he's capable of stepping up a level when he returns. I thought he did well last season, this is just backwards for everyone. There are probably 67 players we could loan out or move on this season as they don't quite have the quality - Ayala shouldn't be one of them.
