Norwich City have confirmed their squad numbers for the new season.

New signings Leroy Fer and Gary Hooper will wear the number 10 and 11 shirts respectively, in their first campaigns with the Canaries – while fellow summer arrival Ricky van Wolfswinkel was allocated the number nine shirt last month.

Simeon Jackson’s departure and Andrew Surman’s season loan to Bournemouth had left 10 and 11 available.

Of City’s other new boys, Nathan Redmond will wear the 22 shirt that was vacant last term, with Martin Olsson replacing the departed Marc Tierney at 23.

Goalkeeper Mark Bunn clearly does not sufffer with triskaidekaphobia, after moving up from number 28 to 13 – which was also vacant last term. Veteran glovesman and new boy Carlo Nash will wear 20 left by Leon Barnett.

Daniel Ayala returns to his 26 shirt having returned from a season on-loan at Nottingham Forest, while David Fox is the only other senior player to see his number change – from 15 down to 25.

It means the 15 and 16 shirts are currently the only lower numbers empty ahead of the summer transfer window’s deadline of 11pm on Monday, September 2 – after which, City boss Chris Hughton will be required to name his 25-man Premier League squad for the rest of 2013.

Norwich City’s 2013-14 squad numbers: 1 John Ruddy, 2 Russell Martin, 3 Steven Whittaker, 4 Bradley Johnson, 5 Sebastien Bassong, 6 Michael Turner, 7 Robert Snodgrass, 8 Jonny Howson, 9 Ricky van Wolfswinkel, 10 Leroy Fer, 11 Gary Hooper, 12 Anthony Pilkington, 13 Mark Bunn, 14 Wes Hoolahan, 17 Elliott Bennett, 18 Javier Garrido, 19 Luciano Becchio, 20 Carlo Nash, 21 Jacob Butterfield, 22 Nathan Redmond, 23 Martin Olsson, 24 Ryan Bennett, 25 David Fox, 26 Daniel Ayala, 27 Alex Tettey.

  • Good point about positions there, TK. Snods played on the left which, as a left-sided player seems logical. But he did tend to cut inside onto his weaker right foot, so perhaps the way Robert is `wired` means playing on the right is more `natural` for him - a player who likes to cut inside. I don`t think it does any harm to play Cafu at CB - could be he`ll have to for a game or two? But Whits didn`t look totally comfortable at LB and I felt he maybe could`ve done better with Walcott`s goal. Anyway, Hoots`ll have it all sussed by Saturday! OTBC. PS. Was Olsson in the Sweden squad?

  • There`s quite a few MBs about now, Muggas - you included! Yes, I think Mr. Bailey is making a challenge for Divot`s hyperverbalisation role with that "Triskaidekaphobia" thing. Paddy may be relegated to a higher (!) squad number. A touch of the `smiling assassin` about young Michael! `Look the innocent flower but be the serpent under it` (Approx). Another MB - MacBeth ;-)) Agree with TK ref Ruddy.

  • Hi Brewer, I've lost you slightly on the 'battle of the journalists' and their hyperventilation, and was wondering if you could at least give a few clues to the thickos like me, as to what the key points are on this issue. Also, do you happen to know whether or not, Redwell Brewery are intending to ignore the Red Bull monoliths, and start producing high energy drinks to shove up their bullying noses?

  • Olsson appears to have played a full 90 minutes last night so must have avoided injury. Neither of our Dutch players appear to have made the squad so things look good on the injury scare front. I was disappointed not to see John Ruddy given at least 30 minutes last night, especially after the first goal conceded by Hart against the Jocks. I am sure Ruddy would have done better with that one and as I have said before John is so much better at distributing the ball, he is almost like having an extra midfielder on the park.

  • There's some seriously long words being used by Mr Brewer which is scaring the hell out of me, please man, use shorter words... As for the lads being called up, I think it's nice, I mean, when was the last time we saw a starting 11 regular come through our own academy from start to finish?

  • Interesting comments there, MBA. I don`t really understand the significance of squad numbers - after all, Tettey`s outside the "Top 25", along with Ayala. People seem convinced Hoots hasn`t finished on the transfer market. I also wonder whether there is a hint that squad changes are imminent at Arch Ant Tower? Mike Bailey is very much in the Davitt role with that triskaidekaphopia. Very impressive - now for the hendecagon formation!

  • There is not a single former academy player in that group. Although some might be added later since they don't form part of the 25, I sincerely hope the same situation does not still apply this time next year.

  • BPbp - I have commented on the Redwell Brewery item elsewhere, incuding the actual article on that subject! The young `brewers` have no intention of manufacturing High-Energy liquids as they move into the as yet uncharted waters(for them)of brewing drinkable beer. They might succeed in time. They have not been backward in coming forward when it comes to squeezing maximum kudos out of this issue, bless their little commercial hearts. Look at Wiki. Cesc, the `big` words were just poking gentle fun at our jousting journos - I don`t really know what any of them mean! Big words are often just a few little ones joined together. Nothing to get hyperdiscombobulated about. ;-)

  • It was good to watch the three Norwich outfield players given a good run out by Scotland yesterday although none played in their club positions. That is presuming Russell Martin is still seen as a right back rather than centre back. Also great to see none appeared to pick up any knocks. As far as squad numbers are concerned, I wonder why hooper was played at number 28 last Saturday and then switched to the traditional left winger number 11, ill elephants as they say so why change!
