Sebastien Bassong believes Nathan Redmond has the perfect attitude to elevate himself into England’s senior set-up in the future.
Redmond, still only 19, has been impressive since making the jump to the Premier League with Norwich City in the summer after leaving Birmingham City.
And even on a relatively quiet day at the office on Saturday, the young winger helped provide a rare chance in the first half of City’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham. So team captain Bassong is backing Redmond to go all the way to the very top.
“Nathan is really young so he’s got a lot to learn, but I think he is working really hard every day in training, trying to improve himself as quickly as possible,” said the City centre-back. “And again I like the way he’s playing. He is always listening and always wanting to do better. So he can become a good player for England and he is a really good player. I like him.”
While City had enjoyed their trips to White Hart Lane in recent years, this weekend was not one of them.
“What happened in the past is in the past,” said Bassong. “We’ve just got to look forward and not think about what happened last season or the season before. This season was a different game, a different year. We’ve got new players, they’ve got new players. That’s how it is, so maybe we’ll come next year and do well hopefully.”
The former Spurs man added: “A lot of teams can challenge for the title, even lower teams can improve this season so it’s going to be a tough battle. They will be up there I hope.
“They’ve brought top-quality players in, and as soon as they get up to speed they will do very well. They are here to perform, which is what they did on Saturday.”
