Norwich City boss Neil Adams warns the time has come to batten down the hatches with interest in his players set to reach fever pitch over the final month of the summer transfer window.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Leroy Fer and Nathan Redmond have long been touted with Carrow Road exits, and on Tuesday Ricky van Wolfswinkel’s agent, Louis Laros, claimed two clubs ‘outside of England and Holland’ are keen to sign him.

City midfielder Alex Tettey also revealed the Canaries had rejected an approach this summer from a Premier League suitor for the Norwegian international, and Adams is braced for a bumpy ride as he looks to ward off predators and bolster his own ranks with QPR free agent Gary O’Neil at Carrow Road for Monday’s 5-1 friendly win over OGC Nice.

“Yes, I think it will hot up now. Premier League teams are getting back into the swing of things and that creates a knock-on effect which travels right down the leagues,” said Adams. “We expected it to be quiet over the last few weeks if I am honest but now the World Cup is done and dusted teams are starting to assemble squads and it usually has a filtering down effect.

“There are 30-odd days left but what I would stress is it’s also important that you don’t wait until the end of those 30 days. We play the first game a week on Sunday so we have got to be as right as we can.

“We’ve said we are not done and that will probably be triggered by outs. We know we need to strengthen so there could be one or two coming in but we also have to be ready to react if we lose players.”

Adams reiterated after his side’s latest friendly win he does not want to offload Fer or any of his best players.

“The phone will be ringing all the time because we have such good players and Leroy Fer will be one,” he said. “People are going to want him. I hope Leroy Fer is wearing a yellow shirt on August 10. He has a few days off to go and enjoy his honeymoon and he is due to be back with us on August 4 which is the week leading up to Wolves and of course we hope he is with us beyond that.”

  • I tried Brew. I really tried. Sadly a majority of posters lately appear to be part of a french styled bomb squad that blow up first, think later. If RVW goes, he goes. Hes not a bad player but no striker on our books last season could've scored within Hughtons tactics. Its really not that hard to understand. Would he have been prolific under someone else? Who knows. All I can say is, if we'd been creating chance after chance in the box, instead of the hoofing it to the half way line and he still didnt score (and Hooper who seems to escape all blame with fans even though hes one of the most lazy strikers ive seen in a NCFC shirt) then i'd hold my hand up and say hes pants (or use one of the abusive things many have).

  • Wolfswinkle really should be let go to any reasonable offer before his minimal talent and light weight physical game are made even more apparent in the robust, aggressive, physical arena of the Championship. He has proven to be the biggest and most expensive mistake Norwich City have ever made in the transfer market. He has proven time and time again that he has no appetite for the English ,physical game. Witness his eagerness to join the injured list, last year it was a "hurt toe" and this year it is a "hurt knee". PLUS he has his agent agitating in the press for a move away. All things considered I do not think that this player warrants his potion in the squad due to lack of commitment and lack of talent. Sell him NOW while he still has some residual value.

  • The positive football played in the pre season games is encouraging but what is going on with transfers? The word "hope" is appearing far too often and suggests there is no co-ordinated policy. Okay, we signed two strikers early on but now the vultures are circling nobody seems to be chasing them away. If only wily Joe Royle was still around to guide our inexperienced management team through the transfer window maelstrom .

RVW has literally just said on his official social media account (so its from the source unlike the newspapers rubbish) "Had a good session today!! Like I said earlier, im getting there! Feel good and happy! Wanna be back playing ASAP! NCFC".

Under the crest they display the number on their shirts and jumpers. They were asking the question if the number would be used or skipped to 667. The ECB have said it is up to the player concerned to decide.

I guess if we didn't have the quality of player who is being chased by premier clubs, we should really be worried!

  • A worrying few weeks ahead. Interest in Tettey wont go away, Newcastle were meant to be tracking him last season as a Tiote replacement, Leroy Fer is a class act and his World Cup appearances and goal will only intensify the scramble for his services and fellow dutchman Koeman has money to burn at Southampton where they need a Lallana replacement, RVW ... strongly rumoured to be on Benfica's wish list, Harry redknapp is a known admirer of Gary Hooper having tried to sign him at the same time as us, Snoddy has gone, nathan Redmond is attracting plaudits from clubs liek SPurs and to top it all, I have heard whisper today that we are signing Gary O'Neill as cover for Jon Howson while he recovers from his medial ligament inury picked up during pre-season. Time to wind up the Murphy's and let them loose

  • I came away from our performance on Tuesday night far more confident than I had been when leaving the friendly games for the previous two seasons. I remember then thinking we didn't have anything to offer midfield or up front. Which proved to be absolutely true last season. However on Tuesday night we saw a different approach - positive, wanting to push forward and a lot of much better and more crisp pass and movement. Some decent wing play as well in the first half, although it all came down the left hand side and we appeared to have nothing down the right. Quite rightly Surman was MotMatch. Redmond had an excellent first half and looked up more before using the ball after beating his man. His pace will worry every defender who comes up against him this season. It was good to see Adams giving a lot of the yougsters short outings. However I expect Friday's team to more accurately resemble the starting line up for the Wolves game, so I would expect to see the likes of Hooper. Not sure if Fer will play even if he is still here. I hope that if he goes and for his own good he doesn't end up at QPR. No disrespect but they are very likely to be in the relegation dogfight along with Burnley and a few others. I am in the neutral corner regards RvW because it would be up to him to prove himself in a team which would offer him far better service...er sorry, some service!

  • At the end of the transfer window August 2013 many expressed disappointment that we had not signed a centre back. Looking back at Bassong's poor form and sulk, Turner's injuries and other limitations etc etc., those concerns seem spot on. We still need to strengthen the centre of defence and right back if we are to avoid more silly goals against. As for the leavers, we are more than adequately covered in midfield so Tettey could probably go but Fer should be kept if we are looking ahead to 2015-16 back in the premiership. Redmond should be retained as he could run riot in the championship and his value can only rise. Ricky must have potential but one wonders at his mental attitude. As Victor has written, pity he does not react like Wes. I hope Adams does not turn out to be one those pompous managers who permanently bears a grudge if a player ever shows any disrespect towards him. Remember the great Paul Lambert and how he got Rusty and the Ginger Pele back into the fold to get out of League One. Finally on transfers out, selling prices always seem higher in the January window so we could make more by hanging on until then.

  • Does Adams really want Fer in a yellow shirt on August 10th? Surely we'll wear the away kit at Wolves - although that said I'd actually argue our away kit is closer to Wolves' home than our home is. The only game we really need the away kit for is Watford. And for both Wolves and Watford we'll have to wear the maroon and black shirt with green shorts, not black.

  • I was all for Winkel a few weeks ago. Now I'm not so sure. He's too much of a liability to have in as consistent squad selection. A slight knock and he's injured again - and this isn't during the season. Then again, how much of him being "injured" is true remains to be seen. He's a proven striker. But we're in the champ now. Selling him for a loss would be a poor result for city. Loan him and see what happens I'd say. A shame that he didn't find his feet last season but it's the same for so many of them and it's amazing stepping back now with hindsight and realise how much CH decimated the morale and confidence of the team and club. It'll be a long time before he gets a job anywhere else.

  • The defence of RVW I find difficult to understand. His whole level of performance has been very poor since he's bee n here and with a new season, a new manager you would have thought he would turn up to be counted. But no, a few minutes playing time, yet another spurious injury, non appearance on the bonding tour and he doesn't seem to be a real part of the squad. Adams seems to be in the wrong for not giving him a fair chance. Hoolihan had a little bit of an attitude at the way he was treated last season, but he has grasped his new opportunity with both hands. RVW needs to stop his sulky attitude and get on with it, although I don't think he will be happy until he leaves City and goes somewhere where they don't know how poor he was last season.
