Norwich City boss Chris Hughton offered a sober reflection of Saturday’s defeat at the hands of the Premier League’s champions-elect.
An efficient hat-trick from Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney’s sublime curler saw Manchester United extend their lead at the summit to 15 points, while the Canaries’ precious win over Everton seven days earlier ensured it was only their pride damaged at Old Trafford.
“This game here was never going to define our season,” said Hughton. “There is only one team that has come here and won all season and that’s Tottenham, and they are in the top four.
“It was always a tough ask coming here. Anything you get is always a bonus and probably for a decent period we stuck in there and made them really work for the win.
“My feeling after Everton was if we had lost that and then had to come here and not got anything, it would have been lot tougher. But we have to respect where we are.
“United are flying at the top of the division and playing a Champions League game on Tuesday, and one mark of respect I’d like to think was the team they put out today.
“Rooney, Van Persie, Carrick; they were all playing and that was perhaps testament to how they wanted to treat this game.”
A magnificent solo goal by midfielder Jonny Howson clinched a notable victory for Norwich City as they wrapped up their season by beating Premier League runners-up Manchester City on their own ground.

It is telling that to emphasise their point MoTD did not show the best Norwich attack ie when Bradley booted the ball into the stand to give himself time to get back into defence. When the second chance came, why was Russell Martin the only Norwich player near it? Where were the midfield players please? It doesn't really matter as nothing is expected from a visit to Old Trafford but if you want to play with only one striker, you must have midfield players with some attacking talent and commitment.

Agree with sharky; MU were just too good in all areas. We did do well to hold out for as long as we did, but the tiredness showed at the final kill, specially BJ & Jonny. I don`t think we could expect much more of the lads - except maybe muster a shot or two on goal? It is sad to see match stats showing Zero shots on target and just one off-target. `Cafu` seemed our most threatening forward.......

At least Ged never has a go at us. He only ever insults the club, the players, the manager and the directors. A true supporter if ever there was one.

Watching all the game. Man U always seem to have two or three players in space. Plus the speed a which they move he ball around. How do you deal with that? We did for a while but it got us in the end. Learn and move on.

Agree totally Stew, Whooton needs some help and he needs it fast! I'm in the Directors box on Saturday as a guest of MWJ (he's a business associate) so I'll be having a word with the clueless one at the earliest convenience. Respect Braaap. Ged - Voice of the people
