Norwich City boss Chris Hughton believes that Manchester United’s visit ranks as the biggest game in any season and that it is possible to get something from the fixture.

Hughton said: “They are such a quality team, like City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal. It is difficult to get points against them.

“You know you have to either have that little bit of fortune against them or you have to play very well. If I look at our game tomorrow we will need every bit of what we have shown in the last few weeks to get something from the game.

“But it is possible and that is the reason why you have a group of players who will look very much forward to the opportunity.”

United’s fitness problems persist with goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard the latest doubt because of an injury he picked up with Denmark.

Lindegaard was named on the bench for the international friendly against Turkey but sustained a knock during the warm-up for the game.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to give an update on his injured players today. Star strikers Wayne Rooney (ankle) and Robin Van Persie (thigh) both missed international duty, while winger Nani (hamstring) missed the 3-2 win at Aston Villa, as did Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans (groin), who pulled out of his country’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on Wednesday.

Two of United’s long-term casualties, defenders Nemanja Vidic (knee) and Phil Jones (knee), are still sidelined.

  • My view is that we have to compete in the bottom half of this league. Anything we get from the top teams is a bonus, including a narrow defeat. After watching us at Reading I just hope we have more energy, ideas and conviction. A full house and flowing football from both teams will do me.
