Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan has missed out on a place in the Republic of Ireland starting line-up for tonight’s friendly against Poland in Dublin.
James McCarthy and Glenn Whelan were handed the central midfield roles by manager Giovanni Trapattoni so Hoolahan can only hope for a chance to impress from the bench.
Derby striker Conor Sammon will make his senior debut in partnership with West Brom’s Shane Long as Trapattoni takes a look at some of the new men he has drafted into his squad with club-mates Richard Keogh and Jeff Hendrick likely to be among the substitutes. David Forde, as expected, will take over from Keiren Westwood in goal with Ciaran Clark partnering skipper John O’Shea in central defence and Paul McShane and Greg Cunningham lining up at full back. Hull youngster Robbie Brady will start on the right side of midfield with Sunderland’s James McClean on the right.
Norwich’s second-string rounded off a great five days for the club by winning the Norfolk Senior Cup tonight.

It's taking him a long time to come around to realising what Wessi can do for RoI, but at least he's finally getting him on the bench! Poor selection of photograph to head the article - this picture is more about him losing out to Samba in a tackle. It would show him in a better light if it illusrated his much more common winning tackles.

How are either Whelan or McCarthy better than Wes ? That Italian fella is quite obviously mentally deficient .
