Adams filled in for Hughton for the last five games of the season, but his side scored only two goals and took just one point.

The team’s relegation meant that many fans were expecting the appointment of an external candidate.

Tonight’s announcement has caught many by surprise. This is how they have reacted:

  • Another woeful decision by Macnally,Smith and co. Smacks of desperation and poor Bryan Gunn comes to mind. On the upside of that at least we found Lambert! I think Delia had better get writing and baking as that is were her talents lie not in selecting decent managers. I wish Adams all the luck in the world he is going to need it!

  • Delia please try and get a buyer for the club, someone who has ambitions and doesn't mind throwing some of the money that we have received this last 3 years from the premier league to buy top players and hire a proven manager instead of doing everything on the cheap and look where that has got us. this false economy has now lost us millions upon of millions of revenue from the premier league next season and beyond.

  • If it really is Delia's decision then it must be the last roll of the dice for her. Norwich cannot expect to survive too many more poor decisions. Delia has to go

  • Very disappointing. Can only hope I will be surprised by the end of the season and delighted to be wrong.

  • There's just no upside to this appointment. Adams will not draw new players to the club, he won't be able to keep those who are already here, his management experience is severely low in comparison to others in the same league, he bottled it against Chelsea when we needed to go for the win and above all else he simply isn't the motivational appointment we needed. Bitterly, bitterly disappointed.

  • Seems such a strange time to announce a new manager 9pm when all "Good" people were getting ready for bed, I got a txt 9.30 and I scrambled around looking for the story... EDP ..no Even News... no Pink Un...no on the BBC Premiership page... Yes... highly strange, so it stinks like a jerk reaction because all the others had said NO, disorganized chaos, but like everything else that comes from the boardroom, we will never know... I now truly believe that the like Hughton who lived and died on what he done, I think the board should do the same, I really want Neil to do well, he's in it now, so no Holiday for him this year, six players to bring in, and only 3 months to do it, and all the half tidy ones being snapped up as we speak, hard road ahead, and it's a mile away from U21's, who we know from any club only 2 or 3 will make first team at best, so it's no good to rely on youth, so it's time for the little black book, and find a Holty like Gunny did. Good Luck because that's 30% of it, the rest is you.

  • So after all that waiting an anti-climax of massive proportions so much for retaining the bigger names of our squad and having the pulling power to get potential stars and thus putting a marker down to the rest of the division. Obviously one or more of our first choices have rejected us for whatever reason and we've had to turn to plan C\D. Reaction so far says it all, heaven forbid we lose 2-3 of our first games, if we do I think we'll see the fans turning on the board and especially Smith & Jones as this decision totally reeks of their doing, not of McNally\Bowkett. Good Luck Neil, you're going to need it.
