The talk of international football simply won’t go away for Nathan Redmond – even if the thought of a summer in Brazil felt a million miles away from the winter bluster at Selhurst Park.
England manager Roy Hodgson continues to mention Redmond in his future planning, while Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill also fancies getting the winger onside over the coming months.
Either way, Redmond knows where his concentrations need to lie; a theme that can follow for City’s other World Cup hopefuls.
“The talk does show I’m doing quite well and I think I’m gaining a little more consistency in my game, having this strong run in the side,” said Redmond.
“If international happens then it happens. At the moment I’m just trying to focus on getting as many points on the board as we can for Norwich.
“But you never know what can happen. If all the lads continue to play well and the likes of Leroy (Fer) and Gary Hooper can give himself a chance, and Ricky van Wolfswinkel – if they can all play well, they will all be there at the World Cup. So it just shows that hard work will pay off.”
As for FA Cup duty against Fulham on Saturday, and having started City’s last nine games, the 19-year-old added: “The gaffer has got to utilise the squad I think and if called upon, I’ll be ready. If any of the lads are called upon, they will be ready.”
