But only once he has finished his business with Swindon Town – and helped them back into the Championship.

The 19-year-old midfielder signed a three-year contract with the Canaries on transfer deadline day, but will spend the rest of the current campaign back at the County Ground on loan.

“Swindon have made a good start to the season, and I want to go there and finish the job, and help get them promoted,” said Thompson, whose older brother Nathan is also at the Robins.

Next summer is going to be a massive time for me and my family, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m extremely proud. To come to a club of Norwich’s stature is a fantastic achievement for me. It’s a massive club, the only club in the city, so they’ve got a huge fanbase. There’s not one negative thing to say about this club.”

Despite still being a teenager, the Wales Under-19 international already has 44 first-team appearances under his belt, having risen through Swindon’s youth ranks.

“That experience makes you that little bit more mature on the pitch, and hopefully I can use that experience when called upon here,” he added. “I’m a bit of an all-rounder. I like to be combative in midfield, use my energy and provide something for the team.

“I’m willing to push myself, give myself a chance and I’m really looking forward to that test here.”

  • Thanks, NMTD; Oh dear, not looking good on the trade-in value front. 13!! I`m sure, if this deal comes good, we`ll know all about it. If Winky drifts off the Radar and it all goes pear shaped, there will be silence. Which is why I try to keep it a live topic. Lest we forget...

  • Maybe Swindon can be one of our feeder clubs just like Leeds. Seems like a good un from the stats But I must find a pen and write his name down, to check on his progress. I can remember most things upto about 2000 but I'm bug'erd If I know what I did last week.

  • Just as long as we get the right brother when the time comes . Still not convinced about Odjija-Ofoe , the video interview looks nothing like the Guy on You-Tube vids or the still pics . As for RvW I expect he is getting over his altitude sickness , St Etienne is several hundred feet aboove sea-level , unlike here and his home country . Or maybe HE was really his brother . There must BE " ringers " in football , hmm ???

  • We really should've split the difference with Swindon + told them they can borrow him till the New Year, then we take him the rest of the season. We're just too nice for our own good sometimes. All-in-all this lad looks extremely promising + we've bought well in this transfer period. RVW- like an old fridge freezer, we'll probly have to pay Norwich refuse dept to have him taken away..."Oi Townman? Do you want a free player? Wages are a bit steep, but he's mustard this lad. One shot every 3 games, slow, can't tackle, distinctly average passing. Just right for you...". OTBC !

  • NMTD - on the "watching from afar" thing, has anybody any fresh news on how Winkel`s doing at St. Etienne? It`s worth money to NCFC for him to do well. Early indications were not great.

  • Sounds like Louis has an amazing belief in his own ability .......... I'm betting NA installed that into the youth set up while in charge - confidence without arrogance is a welcome trait .......... all the best for the season LT, stay safe, we'll be watching from afar - OTBC

  • I've only ever seen Swindon once - @ Carrow Road when Hoddle was manager (I think) and they played one of the first diamonds I'd ever seen. It took us a long while to get to grips with it. Can't remember the score tho. Good luck and welcome Louis.
