Lewis Grabban aims to be the main man for Norwich City to help fire the club back to the Premier League.

Grabban looked razor-sharp in two Carrow Road home friendlies last week, with a brace against Celta Vigo following up his maiden strike since his summer move from Bournemouth against OGC Nice.

The 26-year-old knows he must maintain his prolific strike rate if he is to feature under Neil Adams with the likes of Kyle Lafferty, Gary Hooper and Jamar Loza all pushing for a start ahead of this weekend’s league opener at Wolves.

“There is some serious competition here in the striking department and that should push the ones who are in the line up to perform because they know if they don’t they will be out of the side,” he said.

“You have to back yourself and your own ability. It is also a challenge. There are some very, very good strikers here, but if you test yourself it will make you improve. I think throughout this pre-season we have been getting better and better.”

Grabban profited from Wes Hoolahan’s intelligent cut-back for his second against Vigo on Friday and the former Cherries’ frontman is relishing the prospect of playing in front of such a creative midfield.

“I think I can mix my game,” he said. “I can go long, come short. Some of the goals I scored last season came out of nothing, long range shots and that but in this team I won’t be relying on long range shots. I expect to get slid in.

“Footballers have got to adjust to different situations and that is all part of it. I think I have settled in well to the area and the team and I just want to build on that. It can feel a long drag when you are training for five to six weeks but the trips have broken it up and so do the games. I had a little niggle but I am getting back up to being 100%.”

  • It seems he went a junior school, Cumnor House, which has a good reputation for pupils` achievements in Sports. Crystal Palace signed him when he was 13. (I have a neighbour who is from Croydon & is a Palace fanatic.. specially now Pulis has kept them in the Prem!)

  • He seems to have the "hunger" that we used to talk about in the past and to have that same kind of determination that we saw in Holty and the others NMTD lists.

  • The way the squad is shaping it doesn't look like I'll need to get my boots out of the garage this season. Just as well as they needed new studs nailing on.

  • anton would demand more money because of his name than he really is worth. There is likely a reason why at this stage of the summer hes still without a club.

  • @luciopercia I am delighted we're not in for Anton Ferdinand! He is a horrible person and player who has lived off his brothers name.

  • Good to see a young striker blend into his new surroundings and adapting his style to that of the team - a big failing of RVW. And he apparently scores with ease encouraged by his link up play with Hoolahan and Surman. I think these three are certain starters for the first game.

  • He looks a prospect .... meanwhile at the other ned of teh pitch I am a little disappointed that we are not competing with Reading for the signature of free agent Anton Ferdinand, he would do a great job for us in the Championship

  • I dont want to get too excited as ive seen players talk like this before after they've had a few good seasons somewhere else, then a good pre-season and then just as the fans couldn't be any more excited...boom, 1 goal from 10 games and they are moaning at the poor lad who in fairness is likely doing his very best. I got a good feeling about him but im not going to go over board until hes kicked a ball in anger competitively, instead of just friendlies.
