Norwich City boss Chris Hughton has been linked with two potential Scottish recruits. Skysports claim the club have made a firm bid to Leeds for long term target Robert Snodgrass - although there was no official confirmation from either club.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Former Canaries boss Paul Lambert was a confirmed admirer of the attacking midfielder, but City reportedly cooled their interest 12 months ago with Leeds valuing the player at £8m.

Snodgrass has been offered an improved contract at Elland Road, although the ambitious Scot has made no secret of his desire to follow Jonny Howson into the Premier League at some stage in his career.

Talksport also offered a new potential transfer target for the Canaries in the shape of Hearts’ defender Andy Webster. The 30-year-old is approaching the final year of his current Tynecastle contract and could be available for £250,000. Hughton’s assistant manager Colin Calderwood has an excellent knowledge of the Scottish game after his recent spell as boss of Edinburgh rivals’ Hibs and Hughton has already raided north of the border this summer to recruit Rangers’ Scottish international Steven Whittaker.

  • Why is "Black Roader" (sic) not offensive when "Choc-ice" is? We need a superior intelligence to guide we mere Keyboard Warriors.....

  • Jordan Rhodes would be a good one up front ! BUT we need some defenders - most of the ones at the club (with the exception of Russ Martin) have a bit of a questionmark over them ? Barnett & Ward - whatever happened to them - are they really good enough ?? Tierney & Ayala spent too much time out injured. Ryan Bennett still very young, but a good prospect. Whittaker - will he stay with this Rangers fuss, and, if he does, will he cut the mustard in the Prem ? Finally George Francomb is still a work in progress. I'd say we are a little 'light' at the back - we've lost Zak, Drury & Naughton and we need some more 'steel' in defence.

  • If we get Snodders we'll have plenty of competition for palces in mid-field ! In fact, I think he will make our mid-field contingent up to 13 players if he comes on board. Not sure I know too much about Andy Webster, but we certainly need some quality defenders to boost the squad. What about Zak and Kyle Naughton ?

  • Understand that Joseph Yobo from Everton is also on our radar screen. We live in interesting times...... Great if Snodders comes in, but do we really need more mid-fielders ? If he joins we should shed at least one of our mid-fielder squad and go after 2-3 more defenders.

  • Ok, havent posted in a while and im not here to upset you guys. But looking where you are and the fact you were hailing Lambert for bringing in ChampionshipDiv 1 players, why is Hughton not looking at Premier League players either? Is he constrained by a money-motivated board? I hope you go and get Davies in, like him as a player and has bags of experience. Its just an observation guys, not a criticism.

  • Monkey, I think the problem is the Premiership wage expectations from 'established Prem players' - we have to manage within the clubs wage policy - which is getting better the longer we stay up. Fact of the matter is that there are some very good players in the Championship (and even League One) who can make the step up. Agreed, it is a calculated risk on whether they make it, but, I can't realistically see City signing anyone for more than £6M and paying more than £20K a week. Does that make sense ?

  • In response to MonkeyNuts, I think if we manage to survive another season in the premier league I think only then would be start looking at established premier league players. We are still the new boys and we are still in debt. Yes, we are financially much better off now than we were three or four years ago but we still aren't rolling in it. Once we are able to establish ourselves as a premier league team then we would be bringing in the 'known' players. Until then we are having to bring in those who we can afford!

  • I do like Pacheco. He is a clever player with a good touch, but I am not sure he is an out and out goalscorer, more the kind of player who plays in the hole and I think we have enough players in that position. I'd like to see a striker with pace who can get us 10 - 15 goals to take the load off Holt. Morrison did pretty well in that respect. I know he had his critics (particularly 2nd half of the season), but he did do a decent job. Where we struggled at times though was for pace going forward. Teams could play quite a high line against us when Holt and Morrison were in there. Maybe Vaughan can have a good season, but I would guess most would agree that we can't rely on that because of his injury record.

  • I've got to say, I know nothing about Webster and as for Snodgrass, he's a good player, but we'll wait and see. I don't know about Rhodes, I don't think he would be the answer in the short term. He is young and I suspect far from the finished article and may make an excellent player in the future. However, I think he would be a costly risk as Huddersfield are probably looking towards 4 or 5 mil for him. Young strikers from the lower leagues have a tendency to struggle as defenders are faster and better positionally than they are used to coming up against. On another note I was pleased to get a web comment moderation for libel re comments about FIFA ;)

I achieved a personal best ref retro-ethering and my friends in the volunteer groups are impressed that I am capable of being so "offensive". I`m usually known as "the quiet one". Oh, and btob, who or what is the "Black Roader"? Is it an obscure and seamless (sic) reference to "The Boys from the Black Stuff" - ie member of a tarmac gang? I`d be grateful for clarification ;-)

  • Algarve Canary, absolutely agree- Jordan Rhodes! Snodgrass would be great too if he signs, although if we have to pick and choose then not sure that more wingers is necessarily a priority. Webster's career has been 'interesting'! He did very well at first, broke into national team and looked a class act. He then was first player in Europe, I think, to use some sort of legal loop hole (escaping Hearts for Wigan) but as it went through courts couldn't play for Wigan for ages and never seems to have quite got back to same form. Moving to Rangers was, like for many players, a career disaster punctuated by loss of form and injury but at Dundee Utd and Hearts he's got back on track. Maybe one last shot at the big time? Tbh not convinced at this stage of his career he's better than what we've got but I'd be happy to be wrong!

I'd like it to be true but it just seems like a player that comes up when nobody can think of anyone else, I agree that left back and centre back should be looked at, and just maybe another pacey striker because as much as I love him, Simeon hasn't brought us goals of late.

Come on guy's we are Prem and can go a lot better than the lower leagues. I would still like Pach from Liverpool was good on loan and still looked good against Celtic at Drurys test.
