Norwich City’s on-loan defender Joseph Yobo has declared himself fit for the Canaries’ Premier League survival run-in.

The experienced central defender has been out with a calf injury since the club’s 1-0 home defeat to West Brom on April 5, but the 33-year-old is back in full training and ready to play his part against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend and Arsenal’s final day visit to Carrow Road.

Yobo is also targeting a place in Nigeria’s World Cup squad and the Fenerbahce defender allayed fears in his homeland he will not be in contention for the Super Eagles trip to Brazil this summer.

“I have been declared fit by the doctors at Norwich and I can confirm to you I will make the squad for the final two games against Chelsea and Arsenal,” Yobo told allnigeriasoccer.com. “I have been training with the full squad since last week. I was omitted from the squad announced last weekend for precautionary reasons.

“The last two games of the season are crucial and they want me to play a part because it will determine our fate in the Premier League. I will be fit for the national team. I am super fit and there is no cause for alarm.”

Yobo has made eight loan appearances for the Canaries since moving from Turkey in January.

  • Personally I thought Yobo looked quite good. Solid, composed, and consistent. Even though he is on loan I think I'd prefer to see him in there on Sunday.

  • MichiganCanary I do agree with you. An believe it or not while im a little on the depressive side on this board (im venting ha!) im like a super hero come match day and as positive, loud and vocal as they come in the madness that is the Barclay end. In my heart I know we are down and maybe here is where I voice that sadness. From 3pm on a match day though im anything but beaten. :) OTBC

  • Fixture list hasn't been overly kind to us again. When we play Chelsea on Sunday, they will go top of the table if they win as Liverpool don't play until Monday. It never rains....... I can see them wanting to go for it to put max pressure on ManC and LPool. It's going to be tougher than ever, but it is a funny old game, that's why we love it, you can never fully write off even the most unlikely result. Remember Wigan vs ManC in the FA Cup Final last year?

  • Just my opinion but thought Yobo has looked pretty good for a 33 yr old "has been" as some put it. Should start for me as Russ has proved he aint no more better as a center back than a right back, run for the stands russ hes coming towards you.

  • Norwich have played 18 games away this season and lost 14 of them ,conceding 44 goals in the process. At the weekend they are playing Chelsea away. Whether Hoolahan plays or whether Yobo plays or Turner, or Bassong or Stephen Fry make up the back 4 will not matter one jot. Talk of various team selection is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. It may look better but is ultimately pointless and a waste of time as this ship will still sink.

  • Stew - I agree with who caused the mess, and that it is a mess, and that players, ex-manager, and board all have huge parts of it, but as Stormy says the fans have turned up all season, therefore why give up now. Two more games of everyone giving it their all, might just be enough if we are lucky. Then on May 11th we can high-lite the mistakes that have been made in the hope that it will get put right and we can start afresh with a winning attitude next August - hopefully in the EPL with new owner, board, manager and many players. (Just couldn't wait until May 11th with that last bit)!

  • I hear what you are saying Mattias333, but Chelsea have nothing to prove against NCFC, so believe there is an opportunity to be taken. Too many negatives on this board - supporters must be positive at this stage and in this situation. Do the fans on here just want the team to give up and say it is too difficult? I don't think so.

  • Gosh, a lot of people feeling very bitter on here. If Yobo has something to prove to Nigerian selectors, then let him prove it saving NCFC from relegation. Whatever each persons thoughts on the team, manager and directors, let's keep it until May 11th and get behind whoever plays 110% to try and stay in the EPL. With Chelsea out of Europe and tired from yesterday, they are ripe for the picking. Also Arsenal will hopefully have 4th place buttoned up by the 10th, and be focused on the cup final, so great opportunity for points in both games. OTBC

  • Agree pal, wasnt a post aimed at getting Wes back in. Love the little guy but impossible to fit a luxury player in a lower half Premier League side. On the bright side he may be extremely useful in the championship where we've seen we can use a luxury player to great effect.

The whole team of 'yes' men have now been brainwashed into this 'kick and hope' style of playing!...apart from Snodgrass, who is of the opinion that he can do it all himself!... .Unfortunately Neil Adams has to go along with this, because to fit Wes in would mean changing too much, and leaving out too many of the other type and we have to make at least 11 players available for each game!....The forwards cannot play together as a unit, and our defence wants to have a moments rest, by passing it from one to the other until they lose it!....What we seem to be 'enjoying' at present is like a Wedding Cake without Icing!.....

  • Linc's canary. My thoughts on Ipswich this weekend maybe a tight win but proberley a draw. Never expected much allways was a outside chance of the playoff's. Been trying to get across to you all down at Carrot Rd.you could easyly end up going T-Ts up. Of course you dont think so at the moment ..But IF you have two bad seasons see the numbers drop off. Chelsea will be out to stuff some one come sunday that i think will you And that will be Good night as far as your season go's. P.S. i voted for Rip van Winkle..

  • Canterbury, harsh but very funny. LOL. BTW, re Hoolahan, I am not surprised he is not getting in the squad. In this league we havent got enough about us to have someone who gives the ball away so cheaply, and only gives an ocassional (ie once every 3 games) advantage. The only reason Hughton played him 'ocassionally' was cos of pressure from us fans. Turns out Hools didnt bring much back anyway. Let's support Neil to bring back glory. OTBC!!

  • If Yobo is the best player for his position then play him. Our plight is too desperate to worry that his motivation is to impress international selectors. Just a pity he's not a striker. As for Hoolahan, perhaps Adams sees him as a disruptive influence and does not want him around.

  • Yobbo declares himself fit? Deep joy! I can hardly contain myself! Just what we need another 33 year old loan player with no commitment to the Club announcing he is available to jog around the pitch for 90 minutes to prove himself fit for his National side and any other Club desperate for his minimal talents next season. I think, "thanks, but no thanks". Would like 11 players who are up for a scrap, prepared to battle, not a has-been nursing his fitness for somebody else.

  • Now to me this sounds like Yobo is in a panic because he doesn't want to lose the captains armband with Nigeria. Adams has said similar things with Bassong and co but seems quite clear (whether its right or wrong) that Adams has simply left them out for a reason. Yobo likely is fully fit, super fit as he put it. Will he really be involved in the last fixtures? Well if hes involved as much as Bassong has been under Adams since saying "he is an important part of the squad for this run in" it will mean ZERO appearances. I quite like Yobo to be fair but I cant imagine us agreeing personal terms with him if we are in the championship. unless he drops his demands massively due to his age.
