Norwich City fans have flooded onto Twitter and online message boards tonight to give their reaction to the news that Neil Adams has been appointed manager.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The announcement seems to have caught many by surprise, with external candidates such as Neil Lennon, Gianfranco Zola and Malky Mackay thought to be among the frontrunners.

In Adams’ five games in charge at the end of last season, his side scored only two goals and gained just one point, and many fans had written off his chances of being made full time manager.

However, many gave him their backing online tonight and congratulated the club for putting its faith in him.

Others claimed the decision to hand him the job showed a lack of ambition on the part of the club.

What do you think? Have your say?

  • I agree with Coldharbour Canary, at the moment it seems to be damned if you do, damned if you don't. I can't see any of the other candidates mentioned having a clear advantage over Neil and he is passionate about the job but I agree that he needs to make a good start to get the doubters on-side. Let's get behind him, we are all The Addams Family now and we need two things, a good start to the season and the double over The Munsters at the bottom of the A140.

  • Can't believe the negative comments regarding Neil Adams, I suppose lots of you wanted a 'name' but how easy you forget a 'name' does not always bring sucess- Moyes etc. Its a big transition from the PL to the C'ship and I believe the Board have got it right to appoint NA who is familiar with the squad and the youngsters on the fringe and can gradually build a team capable of playing attacking football again. What do you want someone to come in with cheque book blazing, loads of new players that don't gel, complaining he needs time for the team to settle down blah blah. Give Neil a chance, appointing a manager is a chance whether they have a proven record or not. Let Neil gain his experience now in the C'ship and build a team for the future that I have no doubt he can do. One frequent comment I don't understand - why is appointing Neil Adams the cheap option - Malky , Lennon or Zola were all free agents how is it cheaper to employ Adams than them , are people assuming he's going to do the job for free. A three year contract doesn't sound a cheap option to me .

  • I think the dynamic changed when Lennon left Celtic. Mackay would like that job, and that probably spelt the end of that saga for us. Zola didn't quite fit the bill, and Adams was the best of the remaining two in the frame. It is a situation where we need to have someone in place to sort out the players futures, and to that end the board had to make a calculated decision. I'm glad it is not my call, because it seems your damned if you do and damned if you don't with our merry band of supporters at the moment. Good luck Neil, I hope you grab this with both hands, there is no reason why you shouldn't and couldn't.

  • The Chelsea youth team beaten in last years youth final was supposed to be the cream of talent, but Neal Adams coached our kids to perfection. They respect him, different level I know but he deserves this chance. Back him up! Give him a chance. After 40 years of watching City through thick and thin I feel hopeful. OT BC

  • Nothing against Neil and I'll support him & the team with every ounce of enthusiasm I can. But it just seems like we're chasing that fairy tale ending that never happens. Why we couldn't nab one of the more experienced and proven managers I'll never know, but I hope it was for the right reasons and not just to save a few quid. I just worry about Neil's ability to hold onto those players we need and attract the players we want.

  • If it had been Zola that would have been wrong, Mackay and that wouldn't have pleased everyone, Lennon had managed in an inferior league so that would make fans unhappy instead we have Neil Adams. This is a man who is passionate about Norwich, he knows the club, the fans, the players, the good squad of youngsters, he knows absolutely everything to get the club up and running again. They've picked the wrong man is the cry from the whingers, Division one here we come is a popular shout! Whatever the board did would not have suited everyone, so why not shut up moaning and whinging and give the man all the backing to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, give him a chance to prove he can do what he did with the youngsters, get off his back!

  • Can't believe some of the negative comments on here. The bloke's only just got the job properly after being handed the devil's chalice against 4 of the PL top teams plus Fulham after Hughton was booted far too late. He's City through and through - AND he's an advocate of good entertaining football. So long as he gets the right coaches around him, plus a good experienced director of football such as Phelan to back up the management team, there's a good chance of it working. Give the bloke a chance!

  • Mixed reaction?? I think if Archant took the time to carry out a poll it would be massively anti this appointment. Unless the Board are unbelievably inept (a distinct possibility) surely they must have realised there would be a hostile reaction. Worryingly this would suggest that they don't particularly care

  • The board said they'd bring in a Director of Football and they haven't announced the coaches yet. So I agree, there could be lot of experience in the dugout. Can't believe the fans on here. NA has already failed in their eyes and thats a totally unfair situation to put him in. Joker? Look in the mirror Wally - I really hope you're not at Carrow Road next season.

  • Well, presumably the fact that it has taken two weeks means that others have turned the position down - or wanted terms that the Board have not wanted to meet. They had already stated they wanted Adams as part of the coaching staff - just as Man U have done with Ryan Giggs - and perhaps that was one sticking point. What we don't have yet is the new technical director, who presumably shall also have an influential role. One point missed by many in terms of the immediate reaction, is that now he has been confirmed as the full time manager, I expect Adams style will change too - he will encourage youth, we know that, but I also expect he will be much more of a disciplinarian than Hughton was, and I don't say that as a bad thing either. In fact, none of us really know yet quite what he will do, so being too judgmental now is certainly premature.

  • Cannot understand this board. If they have such faith in Adams why did they not replace CH at Christmas? Cannot but feel that they have gone for the cheap option. How long will they give him? The same as CH when we are relegated to Div., 1?
