Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that the club have rejected a bid from Norwich City for striker Gary Hooper.
The Canaries were reported to have made a £5m bid for Hooper on Thursday, with Lennon revealing on Friday the offer had been turned down.
Lennon said: “There has been a bid. We are very disappointed it has been made public knowledge. We do our business as privately as possible.
“We don’t want any of our top players going, and Gary comes into that bracket.”
However, Lennon is bracing himself for a second bid from Chris Hughton.
“We had discussions with his representatives this morning and we are waiting to hear back from them.
“Our case is simple - you are not going. He has a year and a half on his contract and he’s a Celtic player.”
Chris Hughton insists Grant Holt remains a key player for Norwich City.

The rumour mill suggests that Celtic wont get anything like £5-6 M for Hooper next season as he will be in the last year of his contract, with a Bosnan looming. What's the betting we get him for £6M???

He's up and about early this morning Boots. Perhaps Snotty kicked him out of bed because the hair on his palms was tickling her.

Picture reminds me of Vinnie Jones in his heyday - you wouldn't want to meet him up a dark alley late at night would you!

Thank goodness for that!! £5m for what is essentially a Championship level striker is a quite ridiculous deal. The thought of having either Graham or Hooper up front for a Premier League club is laughable. We really need to be looking at a better calibre of striker than this. The two players most recently mentioned are hopeless, marginally better than what we've got, but still hopeless. COYY. Warm regards - Ged.

I'd love to see GH & DG in Canaries shirts, I think they would add very positive attributes to the team. Aside from that, does this mean the possibility of playing with some attacking intent and two up front ? There's no way we could afford that much investment in bench warmers. Delia must have done well with some new recipes and books, things are beginning to look positive.

Hooper does have a good haircut, maybe that's why he's so expensive. Personally I thought Morrison was quite effective last season (especially the first half) but I don't think the flack he was given helped his confidence at all. Maybe shaving his head again will help his form, it's worth a try when he's fit. OTBC

I agree with Canarygirl, if Norwich want to stay in the P then we have to pull out the stops on a special striker.

I like the picture, if he pulls that face to some EPL defenders they just might run away. come on lets be avin ya, stay at Celtic and you have one Champions league game then they will be out, come here and play against some of the best players in the world every week.

I agree with Liz Snott, £5m is a lot of money but not in comparison to the £66m town owe. Incidentally, you bought McGoldrick and he is a Division One player.

At this time of the year, managers play games....players agents most certainly do. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hoopers agent leaked this story. Canary girl is dead right when she says that we need to stretch things and bring in another quality striker. Relying on Holt, Morison and other fringe players to help us stagger over the line in May is just too big a risk

Trevor, history tells us that Mr Mcnasty will deny eveything until the truth is out. So no suprise there. To get both would show the ambition we all hope the board has , to get neither Hooper or Ghraham would be .....

It's subtle but the claim will be that he answered a question about a definate bid rather than an interest

This is the moment we need to step out in faith and begin to really splash out. If we are serious about staying in the PL then Hoots needs to go back with a bigger offer. If Graham and Hooper are the players he wants then McNally must back him and (sensibly of course) up the bid!! We cannot continue to rely on players from the lower leagues we need to be setting our sights much higher. I hope we get both; that will indeed show ambition and a strong future for the club! otbc

So why deny the interest in a report of January 11th.Every man and his dog knows we are looking for another striker.Admitting an interest is no big thing.
