The Canaries chalked up their first top-flight away win since 1994 when they won 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium in September.

It was part of a dreadful run from Owen Coyle’s side, who lost eight of their first nine home league games of the season.

But as Bolton visit Carrow Road tomorrow (3pm), they are in better shape, losing only once in eight games in all competitions and buoyed by taking four points from home games against Liverpool and Arsenal.

“We have taken seven points from 12 and it could have been nine but we must continue that momentum to move forward because we are still in a dangerous area of the league,” said Coyle after their first goalless draw of any kind in two years, against the Gunners on Wednesday.

“The way we are playing now belies that but to move away you need to pick up points and tonight will help us to do that.

“The great thing for me was we went toe-to-toe with a great side and the last 15 minutes we were the team looking to win the game.”

Coyle has three new faces to add to his squad, who could figure tomorrow, at least on the bench – defender Tim Ream, on-loan Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi and £3m striker Marvin Sordell, captured on deadine day from Watford.

“I think we have had a decent window and to get the quality of the likes of Marvin Sordell, an England Under-21 international, augurs well for the second half of the season,” said Coyle.

“The personnel we have available now and the level they are playing at were not available at the start of the season.

“We all know the circumstances with what happened earlier in the season, and, without getting ahead of myself, I said we would come through that. We are doing it at the minute with the quality we are showing but we have got to keep focus.”

City boss Paul Lambert made five changes for Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland, but it remains to be seen if there will be a further reshuffle after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat, their first on the road for two months.

The Canaries will be looking for their second double of the season and their first Premier League home win since beating Newcastle 4-2 on December 10.

Defender Elliott Ward was a surprise inclusion on the bench at the Stadium of Light, his first involvement in the senior squad this season after suffering a knee injury on the pre-season trip to Germany.

Full-back Marc Tierney has not featured for eight matches, except as an unused substitute in last Saturday’s FA Cup win at West Bromwich Albion, while Adam Drury was left out of the 18 at Sunderland.

The Canaries have confirmed, meanwhile, that they have completed the paperwork on the signing of England Under-21 international defender Ryan Bennett from Peterborough.

The fee is reported to be at least £3m. Bennett will team up with City when his month’s loan with Posh ends on February 27 and he will be given squad number 33.

• Norwich City’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Leicester City will be played on Saturday, February 18, kicking off at 3pm, it has been confirmed. Ticket details have yet to be announced.

The same day, the Canaries will play their Norfolk Senior Cup semi-final against Gorleston at Emerald Park, also kicking off at 3pm.
