Highly-rated Norwich City youngster Jed Steer is poised to re-join Paul Lambert at Aston Villa - according to the Midlands’ club’s official site on Wednesday afternoon.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The Canaries are yet to officially confirm Steer’s pending departure with Villa now publicly claiming he will join on July 1 as a free agent - leaving City to seek compensation for a player under the age of 24.

“Bringing in Jed will also add to the goalkeeping cover,” said Lambert on Villa’s official site. “It helps with everyone pushing on one another, learning from one another and making everyone better and wanting to improve.”

Steer would link up with the likes of Shay Given and Brad Guzan at Villa Park, where Lambert has also recruited development coach Scott Marshall and two of the Canaries’ strength and conditioning coaches in recent days.

Lambert gave Steer his Norwich first team debut in an FA Cup win at West Brom in January 2012. Steer also played in the following round which ended in 2-1 home defeat to Leicester. The 20-year-old also had loan spells at Yeovil and Cambridge United.

  • Hi Steady On and Sharky, yes I do support Norwich City and have done for many years. If I did not, I would not be so concerned about some of the decisions. I still do not think that Bunn is as good as Rudd. We are losing Steer and what are the odds of losing Rudd as well if he is never given his chance. On another thread, the point is made as to why we always sell before we buy. What was the pressing need to sign up to the loan of Rudd to Preston. I would have thought that that the time for this was at the end of the transfer window not a month before it starts.Of course we can do nothing about the way the club is run but we don't have to like it or keep quiet. By the way, if I thought there was any chance that my posts would have a detrimental affect on the club, I would keep quiet.

  • The fact is we will never know if Bunn's signing was inspired and last season made the difference between survival and relegation or whether Declan Rudd would have performed just as well or better. Giving young players their chance is a sign of good management whereas losing them on the cheap for another team to develop and either sell on at a profit or kkep as a first team player is a poor use of resources. Good decision by Jed sadly, and while Hughton manages Norwich we will probably see the other youth stars slip away as well. Come to think of it, why are the coaching staff rushing to Villa? Any chance of Accrington Stanley coming for Calderwood? Please.

At the same time they are too old to play for the under 21's (unless we count them as an over-age players and THOSE spots are best used on our first teamers needing match practice). If these youngsters dont make the 25 man squad but are too old for the "reserve"U21 team it makes sense to sell them, release them or let them go on loan because, with much regret, the club has no place for them.

I'll be popping in and out the Season im sure, will get to a few of your games too when i can't get to the games at VP.Both teams should show a bit more solidity this year, for me PL's been brilliant by getting the players in as early as he has, last year we waited till the last 72 hours of the window before doing business, which as we now know didnt bode well for the season. I'm actually curious as to this signing. He sounds like he has a tonne of potential, but do i see him playing more games here than at CR? I doubt it, probably play the Cup Games (unless Given doesnt move) but thats really about it, unless Guzan has a howler of a season.

For all bunns detractors people forget he saved us a lot of points with his saves during the season. Secondly, amazing to see you roll over and get your belly tickled by this midlander brewer, thought you had more respect than that. Seriously, is anyone going to defend the club they claim to support but me? I cannot wait till September we are going to smash The new Ipswich and shambert. Ever heard of Ricky van wolfswinkel? He's like benteke but, you know, good. He'll actually be at our club as well whereas benteke will be at a big club. I do not stand in judgement - you are not alone! .... Anyway, good to have you back on board - please stay in `friendly banter\footy mode`. Reference Lambert; I was as miffed as most when he left, but you can`t hold a grudge forever - we Canary fans would not have seen our club in the Premiership without him. Maybe not even the Football League by now? And his legacy remains in the form of Russell Martin, John Ruddy, Ryan Bennett, Bradley Johnson, Anthony Pilkington and Jonny Howson. Jury`s out on Elliott Bennett? Suspect Snodgrass may have been a "work in progress" too. Also, I wonder whether Hoolahan`s career would have been revived without him, or indeed that we would have witnessed Holt`s prolific goal-scoring feats without Gorbalschev`s influence. "the lad`s got tae watch what he eats", he once growled. So at once Holty was put on the Glasgow Diet.......;-))

You need to have an enquiring mind to form your own opinion and raise doubt as to the competence of others rather than accept everything and indulge in worship. If something looks stupid to me, I question it. I am fully aware that those who make the decisions probably have more information than I do and that if I knew what they know, I may agree with them. However Norwich seems to be outmanoeuvred at every step at the moment. I have even greater misgivings with our current lamentable government. The difference is that there is not much alternative around in politics; they all seem to be self serving college kids who have never done a proper days work between them. Whereas there are several football managers and coaches who would do a better job than this lot appear to do. Time will tell and I hope I am wrong.

Even if a thousand posters have heard of him, i still think those that hadn't would far outweigh those that had. Anyway, the argument wasnt about him, time will tell if he's up to the PL but looking at him on youtube he does seem a good player and a snip at the £8m odd you got him for. Lets hope he's as good a bargain for you as Benteke was for us. You won't see me commenting snidey remarks if he leaves you guys for a bigger club if he has a good season and scores plenty. They will always hover around and pick off the better players, its the nature of the beast. I also disagree about if you wanted to keep Jed you would, as you would have never let his contract expire if you did. Every 2nd3rd choice GK know they are going to have limited play time, whether they are at Man Utd or Millwall or Acle Utd. From what a previous poster has said, Ch didn't trust the young GK's, so maybe, just maybe it was Jed's decision and didn't want to stay on but NCFC didnt want to sell. These things do happen. Anyway, its all speculation, and from what i can gather we have a good young English GK in our side.

Just look how Hughton treated his young keepers last season, not only buying Bunn as an insult to their talent, but when Ruddy was injured giving some slight hope of a first team game, getting in Camp instead of trusting youth. If Hughton had his way, the minimum age for joining the boy scouts would be thirty two. Best financial plan for Norwich would be to demolish the academy and sell the land for housing. Or why not give it away like every player who comes out of the academy.
