Norwich skipper Chris Borrett admits there is no point in playing down the significance of tomorrow's Premier Division clash against title rivals Fakenham at Postwick.

The two former East Anglian Premier League sides have been neck and neck all season and the outcome of tomorrow's penultimate match of the campaign is likely to determine who will win the title – and earn the chance to return to the EAPL via the play-offs.

Borrett said: 'I think both myself and Ben Harvey (Fakenham captain) played it down when we played each other first time round earlier in the season, but this one can definitely be billed as the decider. There is still one game to go after this but if either side wins on Saturday it puts them in a very strong position.'

Fakenham remain unbeaten this season and beat Norwich by two wickets in June, but having had two more games abandoned than their rivals, they still trail Borrett's side – who have lost twice – by six points.

Borrett admitted to some sympathy for Fakenham: 'Had it been the other way round, I'm sure I would have felt aggrieved and they must be pretty frustrated,' he said. 'But the points scoring system is correct – it was too much in favour of side's calling off games before, whereas now everyone is trying to get games on. The weather has been unfortunate, but it's just one of those things.'

Harvey paid tribute to his side for remaining in contention despite the weather setbacks: 'I think to still be within six points of Norwich having played two games less is a massive achievement,' he said.

'It is incredibly frustrating, but everyone has been unfortunate with the weather because it's been such a poor summer. All we can do is control the games we do play.'

Harvey believes his side's ability to win tight games – as demonstrated in the first match against Norwich – could be crucial: 'There was not a lot between the two sides on that occasion,' he said. 'We've had a couple of tight games since then, not least against Sprowston last Saturday and hopefully if it gets tight again this weekend our players are used to those situations.'

Downham, who still have a mathematical chance of overhauling the top two, face Vauxhall Mallards A tomorrow.

Elsewhere in the Alliance, Garboldisham need seven points from their final match of the season, at Old Buckenham A, to overtake Great Witchingham A and claim the one promotion place in Division Three.
