Norfolk got their Unicorns Knock-out Trophy campaign back on track yesterday when they recorded a comfortable 29-run victory over Bedfordshire at Dunstable.

Chris Brown’s side had a point to prove after being dismissed for just 72 the previous Sunday on their way to a painful defeat against Cambridgeshire at Manor Park.

And that’s exactly what they did as they made a solid 262-5 in their 50 overs before restricting the hosts to 232-9.

Norfolk’s total was built around a third-wicket stand of 145 between Sam Arthurton and winter recruit Garry Park.

James Spelman and Ben France got their side off to a solid start with an opening partnership of 69 and once both had departed Arthurton and Park took over to put the visitors firmly in control. By the time Park went for 77 Norfolk had 239 runs on the board and although Arthurton went soon after for 79 the hard work had been done and Brown’s men had a good total to defend.

In reply Bedfordshire reached 78 without loss but wickets fell steadily after that and when the hosts slipped to 102-5 the writing was on the wall.

There was some resistance down the order but with Norfolk bowling tidily Bedfordshire slipped well behind the asking rate and eventually finished 29 runs short. France led the way for Norfolk with figures of 3-32 while Michael Eccles and Brown also weighed in with two wickets.

Norfolk’s next game in the competition is at home to Suffolk on Sunday, May 18.
