Norfolk squash stars Laura Massaro and James Willstrop will be going for gold on Monday after both won their singles semi-finals tonight.

Great Yarmouth-born Massaro faces a familiar foe in the women’s final, which is due to start at 2.50pm.

The 30-year-old world champion will face number one seed Nicol David, from Malaysia.

That follows a 3-1 win against England team-mate Alison Waters in the semis, with David winning 3-0 against New Zealand’s Joelle King.

Team England is guaranteed a gold in the men’s singles though, as Willstrop will face team-mate, and reigning men’s world champion, Nick Matthew.

North Walsham-raised Willstrop reached the final thanks to a 3-0 victory over Saurav Ghosal of India, while Matthew qualified with a 3-0 win against fellow Englishman Patrick Barker.

The men’s final is scheduled to get under way at 4pm.

Willstrop, 30, is based in Harrogate in North Yorkshire now and reached a career-high world ranking of number one in 2012.

Massaro, nee Lengthorn, now lives in Chorley, near Preston, and claimed the world crown in Malaysia in March by beating Nour El Sherbini of Egypt 3-2 in the final.

She won silver in the women’s doubles at the 2010 Coomonwealth Games in India.
