Norfolk started their Inter Counties Darts season with an away trip to Berkshire.

With the excitement of Norfolk's promotion up from Division Four and Berkshire dropping down from Division Two this first game was set to be a great match.

Norfolk ladies and Berkshire B teams started off the day with a well deserved 3-3 draw with Jan Butters taking the lady of the match with a 3-1 win and a top average of 15.87.

Norfolk Men's B also put up a great fight but with the first three games going to Berkshire they were in for a battle. Battle they did as Willie Walpole was 2-0 down but fought hard and came back to win 3-2.

This was the start of a fight back for Norfolk and by the end of the first day, Norfolk men went down a close 7-5 with Donny Forder taking the man of the match winning 3-2 with a top average of 25.22.

The overall score on day one was a slender 10-8 lead for Berkshire with all to play for on the Sunday.

The Ladies A team came out 4-2 winners again with good games played and captain Steph Mudd winning 3-1 and receiving the lady of the match with a 20.75 average.

Norfolk men played their hearts out with high scores, 180s and high shots out going in.

Vinny Mudd started off the challenge with a 4-0 win, next up was Chris Earll who gave Paul Hogan a run for his money taking the first two games but Paul's experience came through to take the match 4-3.

Games then went back and forth for both sides but eventually Berkshire men won 7-5. Man of the Match for Norfolk was Hamish Varnon winning 4-2 with a very impressive 27.63 average.

The overall score finished 19-17 in Berkshire's favour.

Men's captain Kevin Rudling said afterwards that he was proud and impressed with all players. Regardless of results he said they all showed great fighting spirit and determination and hopefully this will carry on throughout the season.

Norfolk's next game is at home to Derbyshire over the weekend of October 14/15.
