Big night for Norfolk Alliance as awards are handed out

More than 200 guests attended the Cecil Amey Opticians Norfolk Alliance annual dinner at Wensum Valley Golf and Country Club.

The evening saw individual and team awards handed out, with Emma Amey and Robert Amey doing the honours.

The David Gooderham batting award for most runs over the course of the Alliance season went to Hockwold’s Roy Bland who finished a successful season for his club in Division Five with an impressive tally of 1,016.

Top bowler, and winner of the David Crowe Trophy, was Alex Wright. whose total of 38 wickets helped Beccles to promotion from Division Two.

Wicket-keeping honours, and the Doug Mattocks Trophy, went to Matt Collinge of top flight outfit Brooke, who notched up 25 catches and six stumpings over the course of the campaign.

The chairman of the Norfolk Alliance, Peter Thomas, gave a vote of thanks to Cecil Amey Opticians, who took over as sponsors at the start of the season, and also thanked his committee members for their hard work during a successful summer.

The league’s seven champions were all well represented at the dinner as the trophies were handed out.

Leading the way were the officials of Downham Town who pulled away towards the end of an exciting season to add another Premier Division title to their collection.

Joining them in the top flight next season will be Division One champions Stow, another West Norfolk side, who finished the season strongly to take the honours. It was another thrilling season at this level, with Diss also going up and Swardeston A and Dereham narrowly missing out.

The other divisional winners to enjoy their moment in the spotlight were: Topcroft (Division Two), Martham (Division Three), Garboldisham A (Division Four), Snettisham (Division Five) and Horsford B (Division Six).

The junior competitions continue to thrive and representatives from the following winners were in attendance to receive their respective trophies: John Dewing Under 9 Trophy – Swardeston CC, Terry Moore Under 11 Trophy - Gt Melton CC, Allan Bridgewater Under 13 Trophy – Brooke CC, Andy Seeley Under 15 Trophy – Horsford CC.
