Norfolk are the Eastern Region champions at Under-13 level after taking victory in the competition for the first time in the county's history.

Eight of the 10 players have been competing for Norfolk Iceni Basketball Club in the Under-14 national league, which gave the team a good grounding going into the competition.

They advanced to the final where they claimed a dramatic 20-19 win over Suffolk to become champions.

Selection for the East regional squad followed the tournament and four Iceni girls went forward. Tia Abodunde, Rosie Broomfield, Lydia Rivett, and Eleanor Wilkinson all were selected.

After several training sessions the squad was cut down and Broomfield and Wilkinson made the final selection for the East team, who will go forward to the national finals in Manchester next month.

Three Iceni Under-11 girls were selected to represent the Eastern regional team in the Basketball England National Finals in Sheffield. Ruby Donnelly, Grace Endicott and Mia Johannes were selected when the Norfolk Under-11 team went to the Inter County Tournament held at Oaklands College, St, Albans. This was a good opportunity for the girls to test themselves against the best players in England. All the girls performed well and enjoyed the experience. Two of the girls are only year five and therefore are available for selection for this team next year.

The Under-15 and Under-17 inter county tournaments were held at the UEA Sportspark and Iceni saw Emma McNally, Leah Page and Amelia Cropley selected in the Eastern regional squad and Amelia Abodunde and Sharleen Bradley selected into the Under-17 squad. Cuts to these age groups have yet to happen, so time will tell if any more Iceni girls go on to represent the East.

Iceni Saints, one of the club's adult teams, ran out the season as county champions beating King's Lynn Eagles 60-40 in an exciting final at King's Lynn.

The club has around 80 girls and women on its books, aged five years old and upwards. They train at the Open Academy in Norwich on a Sunday and welcome new players of all ages.
