Golfers from Great Yarmouth and Caister led the way in impressive fashion as the Norfolk Alliance programme resumed at Royal Norwich.

Alex Holmes took the professional honours with 37 points, one ahead of the vastly experienced duo of Bawburgh's Andrew Marshall and home player Neil Lythgoe.

Holmes also teamed up with amateur clubmate Josh Brooks to win the team competition with 43 points while two more Great Yarmouth and Caister players - Mervyn King and Barry Wortley - were second on countback with 42.

That's the same Mervyn King who is better known for his accuracy on the dartboard as part of the PDC's elite group of players.

The top five in the team event was completed by Mick Bond (Bungay and Waveney Valley) and Steve Goldsmith (Royal Norwich) on 42 points, Terry Norman and Fred Rogers (Great Yarmouth and Caister) on 41 and Lythgoe (Royal Norwich) and Dave Thomas (Eaton) on 40 (on countback from three other teams).

Marshall donated some golf balls for nearest the pin on the seventh and these were won by Bernie Vaughan (Costessey Park).

Around 100 golfers descended on Great Yarmouth and Caister for the monthly Open Pairs competition. The two-man better ball stableford was won by home duo of Mark Seers and Mike Hall with 43 points. The winning professional was Sam Forgan from Stowmarket who carded a gross 66.

Run by resident professional Mark Sumner, the series continues on Wednesday, February 21. To enter call Mark at 01493-728699.
