Midfielder Rob Hughes is looking for a new club after being released by King’s Lynn Town.

Linnets boss Gary Setchell said the 26-year-old left The Walks yesterday by mutual consent after making just four starts and five substitute appearances in 11 matches this season.

Having spent almost exactly a year at Lynn, after signing from Spalding United last October, Setchell admitted Hughes’ time at the club had simply run it’s course.

The Lynn boss said: “Hughesy’s not played as much as he would like and he wants to play football. He’s not been demanding to play but we’ve had a chat and he’s been released by mutual consent.

“At the moment he’s been frozen out a little by the form of Quigz (Dan Quigley) and Bunts (Richard Bunting), and Jamie Thurlbourne when he’s played in the middle, so I can’t guarantee him football.

“You can’t keep everyone happy. It happens at every football club and I wish him well.”

Hughes, who has played in the Football League for Nottingham Forest and played 45 times for Lynn, scoring five times, will perhaps be best remembered for his role in last season’s UCL suspension saga.

Lynn were punished for fielding a suspended Hughes in their 1-0 win at Boston Town on October 25 and were forced to replay they game. They drew it 1-1.

“Hughesy’s got unbelievable ability and is a top lad. He did a good job at times but came in for unfair criticism from some supporters which he didn’t deserve,” said Setchell.

“I’m sure he’ll do well wherever he goes and we’ll be now looking to bring someone else in.”
