UEA’s Matt Haynes again showed good form winning all his singles and taking doubles with Johnny Bispham to inspire the students to victory. Briston snatched a point from Gothic A in their battle against relegation, Wayne Mason taking two singles for Briston and Philip Logsdon with maximum singles for Gothic. Performance of the evening was from Howard Lupton a five set victory over ‘no power’ David Henderson to give the key win for Briston.

Wensum B kept the pressure on their A side at the top of Premier A with a maximum points win over CEYMS B. It is good to see Alan Clitheroe back in the top flight after a long absence, he gained the only game for CEYMS B with a 4 set victory over Paul Speakman. He also made Neil Charles work very hard for his win, who just got home 11-9 in the fifth.

Hellesdon move into second place in Premier B after a close 6-4 win over Wensum G when new signing Dan Gigli was on top form with a superb singles maximum and teamed up with Francis Webb to take the important doubles. Leaders Electricity were made to fight for their 7-3 victory by Wensum F. Keith Meader’s excellent win over Jordan Gabriel proved to be the turning point for Electricity.

Taverham A and B locked horns with the B side winning 8-2 against a weakened A side missing Andy Calver. Telephones A were indebted to a fine maximum from Philip Clarke when visiting Wensum F to take the match 6-4.

In Division 1, a two-man Taverham C side, Dave Dobson and Janet Kelly, fought valiantly against Wensum H but went down 1-9. Wensum’s Liam Pye had a very close game against Janet Kelly, winning 11-8 in the fifth. Mary Sawyer had a very close five-setter against Paul Stone and Missionaries were unlucky not to salvage a point as they lost 1-9 to Drifters.

Aaron Hacon and Stuart Purling secured maximums for Returners as they proved too strong for Newton Flotman as they ran out 8-2 winners.

In the clash of Foxwood C and E teams, some high quality play ensued with the C team winning 7-3. Highlights were Lawrence Caley (C team) getting back to his best with a second maximum this season, and (E team) Lindsay Horstead’s superb retrieving and fulsome attacking to take the scalp of Ian Taylor.

In Division 2 the battle for top spot is getting very tight.

Wensum J pushed leaders Rosebery Road MYC to a hard- fought draw thanks to Paul Brown winning the final game of the night for Wensum.
