The result moved the Trawlerboys to within four points of fifth-placed Kingstonian, with one game in hand.

Goals from midfielder Erkan Okay in the 62nd minute and striker Jake Reed in the 77th minute secured the victory for the Blues.

The match was played in front of a healthy midweek crowd of 513 but did not kick-off until 8.30, after the Enfield team bus was held up by traffic problems on the A12 on their way up from north London.

Lowestoft were forced to battle all the way before getting the desired three points against an Enfield side fighting to keep clear of the relegation places though.

The game was played at a fast pace and Lowestoft looked as if they had made an early breakthrough but Shaun Bammant, on loan from Dereham Town, saw his headed goal disallowed for offside.

Lowestoft had to wait until the 62nd minute to take the lead.

Strong hold up play by Bammant and Jake Reed in the penalty area finished with the ball arriving at the feet of Okay who calmly stroked the ball into the net.

Lowestoft added their second goal in the 77th minute with Curtis Haynes-Brown’s long ball forward releasing Jake Reed who cut inside from the left before shooting into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

The goal was Reed’s 16th of the season, from 29 games, and the 22-year-old former Dagenham and Redbridge man now looks set to finish as Lowestoft’s top scorer this season.

The Blues play their last remaining game in hand away at mid-table Grays Athletic on Thursday night. The trip to Essex is part of a busy schedule of four games in just seven days for Lowestoft.

They then host 10th-placed Billericay Town at Crown Meadow on Saturday before a trip to 15th-placed Bury Town on Easter Monday.
