Lowestoft Town match-winner Shaun Bammant is benefiting from being the main man with the Trawlerboys this season.

That's the verdict of assistant boss Andy Reynolds, who believes the former Dereham man has moved out of the shadow of Jake Reed following his departure for Leiston towards the end of last season.

Bammant was on target in Lowestoft's 1-0 FA Cup first qualifying round win at Ware last weekend, his third goal of the season so far. And Reynolds has been impressed at the way Bammant has adjusted his game since he and Jamie Godbold took the reins at the Amber Dew Events Stadium this summer.

'From an outsider's point of view, until recently, I think Bammo was getting a lot of unfair stick from some people,' said Reynolds, whose side will travel to Hanwell in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup later this month.

'When Jake Reed was here he had to play more of a supporting role but when we came in we looked at his profile and how we want to play and he's been great for us. He is still one that is very keen to learn and ask questions. He wants to know exactly what's expected of him and he's been excellent.

'We've asked other lads to step up one or two levels and experienced players like Bammo, Fisky (Andrew Fisk) and Rossi Jarvis are really helping with that process.'

Lowestoft entertain Tamworth this afternoon as they look to build on their five-match unbeaten run against a Lambs side that saw their manager, Mike Fowler, stand down earlier this week.

However, Reynolds insists despite the club's superb start to the season that they are not adjusting their main goal from retaining their step three status.

'There are a lot of players that haven't played consistently at this level and we're asking them to step up,' said Reynolds, whose side will be without Josh Curry today following his red card last weekend. 'It wouldn't be fair for us to suddenly move the goalposts on that for them. Our main priority this season is for us to still be a step three football club at the end of the season. We're in the middle of a good run but we are going to have to accept that there will be one or two bad days at the office this season.'

'We will obviously prepare as well as we can to avoid that happening but I think it would be unfair to expect the players to perform like they have been in every single game.'
