The emotions came back to the surface for Lowestoft Town legend Micky Chapman as he finally got to enjoy his testimonial match played against Norwich City.

Chpaman decided to step away after 33 years with the Trawlerboys as player and manager two years ago, after Conference North safety was secured in the club's first season at step two of the non-league pyramid.

His testimonial was due to be played in pre-season last summer but a downpour saw everyone have to head home as the Crown Meadow pitch was waterlogged.

The man who scored 193 goals in 516 games as a player and was in charge of 1,124 as manager finally got to enjoy his big day on Saturday, receiving a guard of honour ahead of the match.

'It brought back a lot of memories to be honest with you, it's been a fantastic day,' Chapman said. 'Norwich have done us proud, they've sent their first team squad down and it's been an amazing afternoon.

'It's nice to be out on the pitch and just to be amongst everything again and it has been really emotional, I'm a big Norwich fan as everybody knows but Lowestoft is in my heart.

'I was here 33 years, over half my life, and it's been a fantastic day all-round.'

The last 15 years of his time with the Trawlerboys saw Chapman share the managerial responsibility with Ady Gallagher, who had a worrying end to the 5-1 defeat after goal-scorer Travis Cole was clattered in an aerial challenge late on and taken off on a stretcher around 15 minutes after the game with a precautionary neck brace on, before being taken away in an ambulance to be assessed.

The Trawlerboys boss had positive news on the centre-back's condition though, saying: 'Travis was checked over at hospital and was later sent home. He had mild concussion and has a stiff neck but is fine.

'We would like to thank the Norwich City medical staff for their excellent assistance.'

Speaking after the match, Gallagher said: 'The workout was excellent for our lads, they worked their socks off from start to finish.

'I thought they did really well, first half particularly. Naturally we ran out of steam but we didn't have a massive squad, we had a lot of young lads on the bench so we drip-fed them into the game during the second half, but I thought the lads did fantastic really.'
