LOWESTOFT Town dropped their first points of the season in defeat at Margate on Monday but director of football Craig Fleming declared himself satisfied with the Blues’ start.
After seeing off Metropolitan Police on Saturday, the Trawlerboys looked all set to make it four wins from four on the Kent coast when Jack Defty gave his side the lead.
However, Lowestoft conceded two sloppy goals as they slipped to their first loss, but after taking nine points out of a possible 12, Fleming won’t be getting downhearted.
“We’re pleased with the start that we’ve made,” said the former Norwich City defender, whose side currently sit second behind Hampton & Richmond in the embryonic Ryman League Premier Division table. “We’re obviously disappointed after taking the lead against Margate that we couldn’t convert it into three points but I think the match against Metropolitan Police caught up with them.
“There are going to be peaks and troughs along the way, we know that. The key is to have more peaks and troughs.
“We are right up there in the mix. Even Manchester United can have a blip early on in the season – the key is how you bounce back from it.”
Lowestoft welcome Harrow Borough to Crown Meadow tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 3pm) with the Blues boosted by the return of Andrew Fisk, who has now completed a three-match suspension carried over from last season.
Lee Smith will come back into contention after missing the match at Margate with a slight hamstring strain while Adam Smith is not too far away following an ankle injury sustained against Whitehawk.
“Smudge (Adam Smith) won’t be far away – he went for an X-ray which showed there wasn’t a break and we think he has just sustained a little bit of nerve damage,” added Fleming, who revealed the club is still awaiting international clearance for Portuguese pair Amando and Osiris. “With Lee (Smith) he had a bit of a tight hamstring and we took the decision that it’s better just to miss the one game rather than aggravate it and miss a few.”
