Lowestoft extended their unbeaten run in the league to 11 games, but lost an opportunity to make significant ground on leaders Whitehawk.
The top side’s shock 3-1 defeat at Harrow Borough presented a chance for the Blues to reduce the gap to 13 points with six games in hand, but it proved to be a day of frustration for Lowestoft.
Scott Mitchell came into the side in place of the suspended Curtley Williams, while Michael Frew replaced Robert Eagle in the starting line-up.
Mitchell’s goal-line header prevented the visitors taking the lead in a low-key opening, while Adam Wallace went close with a header for Enfield.
Lowestoft began to threaten and from an Adam Smith free-kick, Greg Crane headed just wide. Lee Smith then worked some space on the edge of the box but his shot came crashing back off a post.
Former Northampton, Colchester and Barnet striker Scott McGleish was put clear in the dying moments of the first half but the much-travelled front man was denied by Lowestoft keeper Andy Reynolds.
Enfield started brightly in the second half, before Lowestoft began to press the visitors back.
The hosts shuffled their pack on the hour mark as Josh Dawkin replaced Frew, with Smith moving up alongside the unusually subdued Jack Defty.
Reynolds kept out a powerful volley from Bryan Hammatt, while at the other end, Defty, at full stretch, was unable to prod the ball home.
Lowestoft tried another change of tactics with 10 minutes remaining as Joe Francis came on for Smith and Henderson moved up front.
Defty’s late header was saved, but would not have counted anyway as a foul had been given, as Lowestoft were unable to force a breakthrough.
The Blues face another vital game tomorrow night, when they travel to Concord Rangers, who are behind fourth-placed Lowestoft on goal difference.
