Anthony Ogogo suffered more injury heartbreak despite taking a unanimous points decision against Ruslan Schelev in Germany.

The 26-year-old suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder in the second round of the fight against the Ukrainian but still managed to register his eighth consecutive victory since turning professional in 2013.

In the aftermath of the bout Ogogo revealed his injury curse had struck yet again. Saturday's fight in Halle was Ogogo's first in more than a year after surgery on his Achilles but the Olympic bronze medallist is facing up to more time out of the ring now.

'I'm absolutely devastated,' admitted Ogogo, who has made no secret of his desperation to get to the top of the middleweight division. 'To have worked so hard to fight my way back from a bad Achilles injury. To make my comeback after 12 months, only to injure myself again. I'm heartbroken at this moment.

'It looks like I dislocated my shoulder in the second round, fighting the rest of the fight against a very tough and strong opponent with one hand and in a lot of pain.

'I showed so much grit, desire and determination to fight on and more importantly get the win, when many would gave succumbed to the pain and quit.

'I showed a true warrior's spirit that will take me to the very top despite what adversity is thrown at me.'

It's not the first time Ogogo has suffered shoulder problems after undergoing surgery in 2011, which left him in a race against time to be fit for an Olympic qualifying event.

It was a race he won but Ogogo now faces up to more rehabilitation work in the coming months although the full extent of the injury is not yet known.

'I can't express how sad I feel right now but I wanted to thank people for their support,' he added. 'Before this, now and in the future.

'When I know the extent of this I'll let everyone know. Someone doesn't want me to succeed. It'll be that much sweeter when I do.'
