Manager Richard Daniels gave himself the red card at Diss Town this week – and now he’s looking to put a few more names in his notebook.
The former Gorleston boss ended his near year-long stay with the Tangerines on Thursday and admits he has fallen out of love with being in the dugout. But his passion for the game still remains and Daniels is ready for an instant return...as a referee!
Daniels said: “Over the last four to five weeks I’ve found it very difficult to get to training. At the weekend, for the first time in many, many years, even in the days when I was playing or refereeing, I just didn’t want to go. I just couldn’t get myself up for our game.
“The chairman (Richard Upson) questioned my body language, which I fully respected, and whether I was enjoying it anymore and I was honest and said I wasn’t. I wasn’t doing myself or the club justice.
“I’m out of the management loop now and I’m going to have a deserved break. If I reappear, it definitely won’t be this season. I plan to referee again.
“As odd as it may seem, I enjoy refereeing. After six years of Thurlow Nunn League management I want to have a go back out in the middle again. It’s time to pay a bit back to the refeerees I gave abuse to for all of those years.”
Daniels helped Diss avoid relegation from the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division last term and leaves the club in 13th place. Assistant Chris Tracey has been appointed interim manager and will take charge of the Brewers Green Lane outfit at third-placed Norwich United today.
Elsewhere, Mildenhall Town host Gorleston – who are looking to get back to winning ways after a surprise defeat at the weekend – and Thetford Town entertain Kirkley & Pakefield.
In the First Division, still managerless and struggling Downham Town host AFC Sudbury Reserves, in-form Great Yarmouth Town welcome Haverhill Borough, March Town United host Debenham LC and Swaffham Town are at home to Stowmarket Town.
Fakenham Town visit Halstead Town while Dereham Town Reserves make the trip to Suffolk to face Whitton United.
