Dereham Town will be looking to make history again tonight as they go in search of their first home win in Ryman Division One North.
Matt Henman’s Magpies picked up their maiden win at Step Four of the non-league ladder on Saturday with a 4-2 triumph at Brentwood Town. And after back-to-back defeats in their opening matches, the Dereham manager is looking to record consecutive victories by beating Witham Town at Aldiss Park this evening.
Henman said: “It was important we got some sort of result, a win or a draw, to settle us down a bit. There was no pressure on anyone as although we had two poor results we gave two good performances.
“It’s good to get points on the board within the first three games and hopefully we can now play with a bit more confidence and put a run together.”
Sam Willis returns to the squad for the visit of the Essex club while Gary Starling, who scored at the weekend and was a “real plus” on his comeback from injury, is also set to feature.
Goalkeeper Andy Wilton is unavailable for the second match running so King’s Lynn Town ‘keeper Alex Street, who has signed dual registration forms to play for lower-level Dereham as well as the Step Three Linnets, will keep his place.
Henman said of Lynn’s number two: “It’s an arrangement which is perfect for Setch (Linnets boss Gary Setchell), us and Alex.
“His attitude on Saturday was first-class and he looked a very good goalkeeper. We were pleased to have him in.
“We’ll have to play it by ear. Wilts is back on Saturday but I’ll speak to Setch and see where the land lays. Maybe we can get the chance to use Alex in a few more games in the future.”
