Christy Finch record for Gorleston

2013/14

30 goals and 12 assists in 32 games

2012/13

30 goals and 18 assists in 37 games

2011/12

16 goals and five assists in 31 games

Striker Christy Finch celebrated his 100th game for the club with his 29th and 30th goals of the season in the 3-1 home win against Brantham Athletic on Saturday.

It takes the 21-year-old’s total to 76 goals in 100 games for Gorleston, as well as 25 assists in that time.

Manager Stewart Larter takes his team to bottom-of-the-table Woodbridge Town tonight, as the fourth-placed Greens continue to try and finish in Thurlow Nunn Premier’s top two to keep their promotion hopes alive.

“Christy came in from Lowestoft two and a half seasons ago and I think a good example was the Norfolk Senior Cup (in 2012), when he was on the bench at Carrow Road for the final,” Larter said.

“He looked at the pictures of the game and wasn’t in the best place mentally but ever since he has flown. His approach to the game is fantastic, he is the leading goalscorer in the league and has been outstanding for us.

“His decision making, his hold-up play, his aerial game have all improved so all round he’s a very good player and a good asset for us as a club.”

Finch has scored nine in his last seven games, including the two goals which beat Norwich City Under-21s in the Norfolk Senior Cup semi-finals.

Larter added: “We tied him to a longer contract with the club because we could see his potential, but to protect the club a little as well, but I think on both fronts we can say it has been a good move for him.

“There has been interest from higher standard clubs already but it makes no difference, we’ll have those conversations with Christy at the end of the season because we have 11 league games and a cup final to look forward to.”
