Thurlow Nunn First Division Great Yarmouth Town have appointed Lee Hackleton as interim manager until the end of the season.

The club’s former reserve boss – who has yet to take charge of a game due to a couple of postponements – had agreed to be caretaker following the sacking of Mike Derbyshire on February 3. But now he has decided to take the post for the remainder of the campaign, much to the delight of Bloaters’ temporary chairman Len Beresford.

Town’s interim chief said: “For me Lee was the obvious choice, he absolutely loves this club and if there is anything needed doing he is always there. You can see that he has the respect of the players and I can see no reason why he wouldn’t grab this challenge with both hands and help drive Great Yarmouth Town Football Club onwards and upwards.”

Hackleton said he was “honoured” to replace Derbyshire – who was axed for “breaking a chain of command” at The Wellesley.
