Dereham Town know they’ll be in for a tough test this afternoon when they welcome St Ives Town to Aldiss Park.

The Magpies kick-start their latest FA Cup journey in the preliminary round against the side who dumped them out of the competition last season. That day, Dubi Ogbonna fired a hat-trick as the Saints won 4-1 on their own turf to reach the second qualifying round for the first time in Ives’ 125-year-history.

So Matt Henman’s troops will be looking to gain revenge against the travelling Saints as they make the short journey across the border from Cambridgeshire for the match.

Ryman Division One North Dereham have had a mixed start to their second term at Step Four of the non-league ladder but at least have been enjoying home comforts. They have won two and drawn one of their three matches at Aldiss Park.

However, while same-level Southern Division One Central St Ives arrive off the back of their own mixed bag of results, the better of those have come on the road. Away from home, St Ives are unbeaten, winning and drawing twice.

While Ogbonna no longer plays for the Cambs club, Jon Stead still does. He notched in the clash between the two outfits at Westwood Road last campaign and is likely to pose a big threat in front of goal today.

Yet Dereham drew with the impressive Soham Town Rangers on Monday and will be full of confidence thanks to their fine start on their own territory.

And given the fact they were thumped when the teams last met, Henman’s troops will need little motivation to ensure they come out on the right side of today’s big cup clash.
