Wisbech Town will have to do it the hard way again if they want to keep their dreams of reaching an FA Vase Wembley final alive.
The Fenmen – who beat Hadleigh United 2-1 on Saturday to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in 24 years – will be on the road once more in the last eight.
For the fifth successive time in this year’s competition, the Cambridgeshire club have landed an away game following a draw at the FA’s headquarters.
Dick Creasey and Paul Cousins’ side will visit either Southampton-based Sholin or Larkhall Athletic, from Bath, on Saturday, March 8 for a chance to reach the two-legged semi-finals.
It’s the eighth time in a row the Fenmen have failed to be handed a home tie and the 10th occasion in 12 Vase matches that they have had to play elsewhere in the country. Town’s last fixture at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium in the competition came against Dunston UTS in January 2012. They did however win a replay on their own turf against St Ives Town having drawn a clash their last season.
