Laura Massaro insists she will have no complaints about Glasgow 2014 despite failing at the second time of asking to secure squash gold.

The Great Yarmouth-born 30-year-old missed out on the women’s singles title when she lost to Malaysia’s Nicol David and then put all of her energy into the women’s doubles competition alongside Jenny Duncalf.

The pair won silver at Delhi 2010 and set themselves up to better that after reaching the final where they faced India’s Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal.

However, it wasn’t the happy ending that Massaro had been hoping for as the Indians proved too strong, winning 11-6, 11-8 in 28 minutes.

And, while disappointed not to win, the reigning world champion said a second Glasgow silver with Duncalf had still been something to savour.

“I’m actually more proud of my performances in the doubles than singles – we don’t play for four years,” she said. “So for us to come together as a pair with very little competition practice and perform like that on the big stage is something to be proud of.”

England’s James Willstrop, from North Walsham, and Daryl Selby won bronze in the men’s doubles after defeating Scotland’s Harry Leitch and Alan Clyne.
