Larter returns to Gorleston for second spell as manager

The appointment follows the recent resignation for career and family reasons of former manager Ricci Butler.

'I am delighted to once again have the opportunity to work with Larts,' said Greens' chairman Alan Gordon. 'I hope that everyone at the club gets behind him.

'Stewart and I had a great manager/chairman relationship and I am very much looking forward to rekindling that relationship.'

Due to prior commitments, Larter does not take over until Monday, with Gary Ingram and Matt Potter looking after the team in last night's 1-0 defeat at Stowmarket.

Larter said he was delighted to be back at the club and is looking forward to the challenge.

'The club is in a good place thanks to Ricci and the team.' He said. 'It's good to be back working with people I know. My past achievements are exactly that and I will be working hard to hopefully create some more.'

Stewart first came to Gorleston during the 2010/11 season, helping out with the under-18s before stepping up to the first team as assistant manager in September 2011.

In November 2011 he became joint manager with Richard Daniels before taking sole charge in October 2012, his first game being a 3-2 win over Haverhill Rovers.

He left after winning the Norfolk Senior Cup in May 2014 to take over at Wroxham, who were playing at a higher level at the time.

Looking to bounce back after a 4-3 home defeat at the hands of Newmarket on Saturday Gorleston were under pressure for much of the first half last night, and fell behind on 14 minutes when Amar Lewis squeezed the ball home. Gorleston had much more of the play in the second period, but it was Stowmarket who took the points.

Kirkley and Pakefield picked up only their second win of the season when they saw off Thetford Town 2-1 at Walmer Road. The Royals took the lead from a goalmouth scramble just before half-time and grabbed a winner on the hour mark after Robbie Priddle had equalised early in the second period.
