Scott Nicholls will not have to face the side he will guest for on Wednesday because King’s Lynn’s trip to Belle Vue has been postponed.
The seven-time British champion was going to be trying his best tonight to prevent high-flying Lynn from ending the Aces’ unbeaten home record – two days before he will pull on the Stars’ colours at the Norfolk Arena.
Lynn were heading to Kirkmanshulme Lane with the experienced ex-Stars rider Davey Watt in their line-up as guest for the injured Kenneth Bjerre, before returning to Saddlebow Road on Wednesday to face Swindon – when Nicholls will step into Bjerre’s boots. Bjerre is out of action with a broken collarbone sustained at the end of last month against Leicester and Lakeside rider Watt comes in at number five. Stars boss Rob Lyon is confident the Australian will prove to be a good replacement.
“Davey is in form at the moment and he was keen to help us out in place of Kenneth,” said Lyon.
“He is a solid performer and I am sure he can do a good job for us.”
Watt is the only change to a Stars line-up which has won its last four meetings.
Belle Vue are unbeaten at home – and Nicholls was confident they can keep it that way – before the clash fell foul of the wet weather.
He said: “Kings Lynn are a good outfit who will I’m sure prove to be stiff opposition, but we’re proud to be undefeated at home and we’re more determined than ever to hold on to our record. The support of the Belle Vue fans when we ride at home is amazing and it’s something all the boys, including myself, love to see.”
The Sky TV cameras will be at Saddlebow Road on Wednesday when seven-time British champion Nicholls will be asked to help defend another 100pc home record.
Victory could see the Stars go top of the Elite League table, depending on results elsewhere.
“Scott is a quality rider who always gives it his all,” said Lyon.
“He has performed well at King’s Lynn before and has been in good form for Belle Vue.”
The first heat on Wednesday is at the earlier time of 7.30pm due to TV requirements.
