Sitera and fellow Stars rider Tomas Topinka represent their country against Team GB, reigning champions Poland and Russia. While the Brits and Poles look set to fight it out for the automatic berth in Saturday’s final, the Czechs hope to secure at least third and a place in the race-off at Gorzow on Thursday.

The Russians go into the tournament seriously under-strength after grand prix star Emil Sayfutdinov pulled out following a row over expenses and brothers Artem and Grigory Laguta failed to get UK visas. The Czechs had to go through the notoriously tough pre-qualification rounds to earn their spot at King’s Lynn, but third place tonight would give them a guaranteed spot in next year’s competition.

Lynn’s Elite League reserve is determined to make the most of his local knowledge and put the Czechs back among speedway’s top six.

“I think I will be very fast at King’s Lynn,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll score some points there because I know the track and I know some good lines.

“Hopefully we can get third position and qualify for the race-off. The qualifying rounds for the World Cup are always tough. It will be easier for us if we can qualify for next year tonight.”

Sitera is enjoying the best season of his career to date in Britain and admits he could not be happier with life at the Norfolk Arena.

“This season is alright and there are some really nice people at King’s Lynn. I’m living with Mads Korneliussen and he is helping me so much,” he said. “Buster and Jonathan Chapman and Rob Lyon are all nice guys and try to help me. I want to keep getting some points for them, show them I’m a good rider and I want to stay at King’s Lynn for a long time.”
