Rob Lyon admits King’s Lynn are playing a waiting game on finding out the severity of Lewis Rose’s knee injury.

The Stars welcome Swindon Robins this evening for their penultimate Elite League fixture of the season. However, with the play-offs just around the corner, Lynn’s team boss concedes he’s not sure what part his reserve will be able to play in the club’s quest for glory.

Lyon said: “Lewis hurt his knee on Sunday riding for Newcastle and he will have an MRI scan.

“It’s always a problem when any rider gets an injury, especially like this. Lewis is a great kid. We’ve just got to keep our fingers crossed that it’s nothing too serious and he’s only out for the short term.

“He’s in limbo and we’re in limbo. Until we know the full extent of the problem we can’t prepare, for better or worse, on what’s going to happen next.”

Rose – who is feared to have suffered ligament damage – will be replaced by guest Simon Lambert tonight. Robert Lambert will remain at number two, even though Niels-Kristian Iversen’s usual sidekick Nicklas Porsing makes his return to Lynn’s line-up.

“We’re just trying it as both riders are happy to have a look at it,” said Lyon of the riding order switch.

“There’s been much discussion about how hard it is for the number fours, especially away from home. Their first ride isn’t until heat five and it’s against the other team’s one and five, who have already ridden.

“We’re just trialling it to see if it makes things a bit better for both riders. If we can get a little bit more out of them both, then all the better. It’s something we’re monitoring.”

Table-topping Lynn, already realistically assured of a play-off slot, will mathematically guarantee one if they at least draw with the top-four chasing Robins. The Stars have beaten Swindon once at home but lost twice away to them this season.

Lynn: 1 Iversen, 2 R. Lambert, 3 Schlein, 4 Porsing, 5 Bjerre, 6 Kerr, 7 S. Lambert (guest)

Swindon: 1 Kildemand, 2 North, 3 Gustafsson, 4 Morris, 5 Batchelor, 6 Greaves, 7 Worrall
